Default Heat damage with Headers

I have searched but came up with very little.

Specially concerning the C6 and Header heat damage.

For street use how much of a concern.

By the way I am not interested in preventive coatings on the pipes, rather what damage that has transpired due to uncoated SS.

Thanks for real world history.

Zero damage in 5000 miles. No plug wires melted, the body didn't melt off...Oh, I did add an Elite Engineering heat shield so my console temps are cooler..

About 15000 miles with uncoated LG's. no issues at all. In fact the cockpit is even cooler than stock without a tunnel plate. Those cast iron manifolds are like ovens under the hood.

Yes I too have the Tunnel Plate. Just seems as if the engine compartment is really hot. Might just be me worrying about the added heat. I have the boots for the plug wires, nothing else.

There's a lot more heat coming from the cats then the headers. The only concerns about the headers is baking the wires and increase in under the hood tempature.

On my '08 Z where the steering shaft comes through the firewall there is a white plastic grommet that was showing signs of heat damage. Another Z owner with headers had the same thing happen and pointed it out to me before I noticed it. I wrapped the header pipe closest to it for a couple inches because that's all I could get to and it has been fine. On the passenger side there was a wire loom or something beginning to melt so I did the same over there. I can't remember exactly what it was.

So wrapping the header pipe partially is ok. I have read that wrapping the pipes is not a good idea. I was told to wrap the forward pipe a bit on the passenger side due to to much heat on a air conditioner part. The heat causes the air conditioner to shut down. Have not done it yet, still trying to get advice.

Why not just pay to get them coated and not worry?

It is OK but if it gets wet and soaks up water it will rust faster than water hitting it from driving normally.

Coating is not a option, or in the discussion period......What i am interested in learning is what problems exist when running SS headers in the Vette and in other cars as well. I am not convinced that coating is necessary for the SS tubing. Yes I see some 100+ degree heat differencees in some tests but I think, so what.
