Default Brake Questions

Any suggestions on brake pads? I had the car on the track this weekend, and after about 15 minutes of hard corner braking, the stock pads were heating up and shot.

I need something that will not fade as much and will hold up.

I really like the PFC 01 compound brake pads. They handle high temperatures much better than regular street pads but they are not too hard on rotors. They will last a lot longer than a steet pad on the track as well. They dust a lot, but their dust is not as problematic as some other pads. I don't run them on the street, so I don't know if they will squeal a lot or not under street conditions.

The "fade" might be your fluid boiling. When was the last time you did a complete fluid flush? Do you have a good DOT 4 fluid in the lines now?

The fluid was getting hot. I flushed it in the off season. It was clean when I started this weekend, but you could definately see the color change as the weekend went on. One of the guys did recommend going to DOT 4 instead of 3 the next flush I do, which will probably be next week.

Another thing to be aware of is that the brake pads will taper during the day and that will result in a "longer pedal" towards the end of the day. You may think its fade when its actually taper. The taper is caused by twisting of the calipers and is a result of the lighter built calipers used on the non-Z06 and non-ZR1 cars. I swap brake pads from side to side between track days to counter the taper and make the pads last longer.

You should definitely run a good high temperature fluid like Motul 600 or ATE Super Blue.

Default Brake pads for street and track

On my last 2 Z06's I have found EBC YellowStuff to be THE choice.
They are better than stock for cold bite. Like you, my stock pads were toast on track in 10 - 15 minutes. The EBC's in an hour were still excellent. About 1/2 dust of stock (more of a grey color). BuyBrakes.com has prices.
