Pull back the rug and you will see the path. Honestly, I cant remember but I have done it and it took minuets. Unsrcew the "hooks" on either side of the inside hatch to which will release carpet and allow access to be pushed from behind. Theere are screws holding the lights in place.
Aren't the reverse lights at the bottom of the fascia? When I was working back there I had the fender wells out and they were right there. Looked pretty simple from underneath. Dont know why you would need to pull carpet back etc...... I would image that would be for the C5 where the lights are up by the tag.
The lights each have two "****" molded into them (yellow arrows). These fit into the holes in the fascia (yellow arrows). On the bottom of the lights are two clips (red arrows) that accept screws from outside, through the fascia (red arrows).

Cool. It looks like I gotta take off the fasia or open the wheel well to get these out though.
Actually you just remove the (4 on each side) 7mm screws on the bottom of the rear valance that hold it to the inner fender wells... then gently pull the valance down to access the (3 on each side) 7mm screws that hold the valance to the quarters. Then stand behind the car and pull the valance (twards you) and away from the bumper while a friend pushes the tabs up that hold it to the bumper .. that will give you more than enough room to access the 2 phillips screws that hold the light to the top of the valance. Oh yeah..then push out the **** that hold the bottom of the reverse light to the valance.
