I had my car in the shop for five days to fix a lag in shifting. They found one of the seals installed upside down. So a test drive and all seemed ok - yesterday while stopped for a red light and attempting to turn left the trans basically quit. Traffic was coming and I had to hit about 4K just to make it across the intersection at a fast 5mph.
Any ideas? Also the check engine light came on? I have heard of a limp home mode, however thats all I know about it.
I just want to be informed before the dealer starts telling what could be wrong - I am thinking of demanding a new trans - no cofidence in this one, I could have been killed or worse yet my wife of kids.
Sounds like the trans went into "safe" mode. When that happens it stays in 3rd gear. Thats why you had to give it so much gas to get it to move.
Happend to me when my clutch packs smoked the first time.
Mine is in the shop now for the 3/4 clutch packs again. They are planning on using a new case since the only thing they can think of is a porisity problem with the case starving the clutch packs for fluid.
Personally I would tell them to install a new TCM (trans brain) atleast. They may have crimped the seals above the valve body messing with it. Here is the thread I started about removing the TCM for a tune. You will see at the end, one member had a problem with seals on the valve body. Atleast this will help you learn anout it.
