Default vid request for LG headers/ZO6 catback

I am on the fence about what catback to put on my 07 C6 with headers. I am leaning towards the LG headers and I have seen on this forum about several catback brands having a drone factor. With the minimal performance increase from a catback system, I have gained more interest with a Z06 catback to compliment my header selection.

I am having trouble finding any soundclips with this combination and was wondering if anyone knew of any that I might be able to listen to prior to purchasing.

I also have a few questions regarding this:

1. Will the ZO6 catback bolt directly to the LG headers? I think I've
read they do, just want to make sure
2. Regarding the butterflies on the ZO6 exhaust, will they stay open if I
dont have the system to regulate the flaps opening/closing?
3. Will going catless cause the car to sound raspy?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Adam

I can't answer your question as to the LG headers, but I do have headers and pretty sure they will sound much the same.I have AR headers and fought the drone monster with an aftermarket catback system. I with the the Z06 mufflers. They will stay open if you do not connect them to a vacuum source. They also droned from 1500-1800 with the flaps open.

I chose the Sunset Orange controller because Bens unit uses engine rpm to open the flaps, much like the stock system.

I can tell you that with headers they will be a little louder than stock in the closed position. When mine open at 3000 rpm, it gets loud in a hurry..
As for no cats, I did that on my C5, the smell in traffic was bad. I added cats soon after the install.

If you pm me your email addy I can send you a video file of the mufflers at idle-3000 rpm when I was testing Ben's controller

where are you located? I've got LG Pros with the Z06 cat back. I use the Nakid Parts controller. There is a lot of drone at 1500 RPM below and above isn't too bad. Of course sound is subjective. Valves closed and it's pretty close to stock. All in all it's the best of both worlds IMHO.

Thats also what I wanted to know as well. I was planning on going catless but wasn't sure how much of a drone factor this causes. Im not really worried about smell and there are no inspections. Im not really into the "popping" sound so not sure if catless causes popping.

Is there a noticeable power increase without cats?

There will be absolutely no SOTP or noticeable gain by going catless. I have LG Pro's with cats into NPP mufflers. It absolutely ROARS when open at WOT. It also drones bad while open at hwy speeds.W/O cats will be worse.Popping upon throttle let off will sound much louder as well.Honestly I didnt think it would be that ferocious sounding.Use cats, avoid the stink(it will get to you and your passengers after a while) and you would only gain 2-3 hp. It aint worth it.

You might be better in getting the full Z06 system. I don't have but maybe someone could chime in on this. If I had to do it all over again, I would have opted this system instead of headers and OEM mufflers.

I run LG Pro-Long tubes w/high flow cats and X-pipe. This set up comes standard from LG. If you look to bolt up to different pipes past the collector then you need to call LG and ask if you need a custom piece cut. If you start mixing and matching with the LG parts you will see a decrease in performance. LG Headers go through extensive testing as a whole set-up.

As for the drone the cats make almost no difference. its mostly about your mufflers. The corsa xtreme offers no drone. Look on you-tube for LG Corsa there is a video on there with HQ sound.

well i have had several setup on mine and put then on several other cars.
headers def change the cat back and no cats are louder. if you want no drone get corsa exhaust. i had bullets on min and i loved the sound but they so loud and drone that with current set up i felt i was asking to be pulled over. so i swapped to corsa zo6 sports on lg c6 pros with zo6 rear section... here is the sound...

granted this is a blown 416 ls3 but gives you idea of the sound when beating on it. but goes quiet when you just cruising around...and like i said no drone!

Heres my LS3 with LG street series and NPP exhaust.

Very slight drone on the freeway at about 65mph in 6th, but you can close the valves if it bothers you.

I have to give my 2 cents for going catless. I never minded the smell considering old muscle cars my family has had smell the same way. I love the popping when coming off the throttle and at least on my GTO's it was more near 9-10rwhp difference in gain. I know some states have inspections so that can be an issue. If the smell of burning gas gets to you then that could be an issue too. Personally I see cheaper, louder and more power as quite the win-win-win situation.
