I have an 08 coupe with a 6 speed. I was driving down a street in my neighborhood when I passed my uncle on a sidestreet. I was only going around 20 and slowed down to ~1 mph. Very close to completely stopped. I put it in reverse and as I backed up to talk to him it felt like it slipped out of gear. Afterwords whenever I put it into reverse it would not engage at all, even if I let the clutch all the way out. It's still under warranty and I'll be taking it in tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before or if they have heard of it before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
i know i was going slow enough to be able to shift into reverse, because i started moving backwards. i wasn't completely off the clutch when it popped out.
well, turns out i miss shifted. when the car popped out of reverse i tried putting it back in reverse and inadvertantly put it in 5th, which sheared the reverse gear. At the time, I didn't think about the fact that the electronic lockout for reverse doesn't discriminate between forward and reverse, so when I went to shift back into reverse, I was going over 3 MPH or whatever the threshold is, and it went to 5th. thankfully its all covered under warranty, but the reverse gear blocker ring and the reverse gear are both on backorder right now so theres no telling when I'll get the car back. I'm going to start looking online and calling around and hopefully someone will have them in stock.
What is a blocker ring? Does each forward gear also have a blocker ring? Blocker ring prevents "jumping out of gear" ?
The blocker ring is the "toothed" ring that slows down the syncro to engage the next gear and reverse. The blocker rings are actually easy to round off and then the slider will not fully engage the gear causing it to jump out of that gear when load is placed on said gear. Usually it affects 2nd and or 3rd but a bad reverse grind while in motion can do it too.
I've rebuilt many T-5's in Foxes but only 1 T-56. They all work pretty much the same though.
FWIW, I have seen symtoms reduced or even eliminated (my own car) with a high quality (Royal Purple) Syncromax lube. My KB Cobra had a horrible 2nd gear grind/poping out and after adding RP for 2K miles with full clutch engagement and slow shifting, it cleared up 100%. When I sold it you would never know it ever had a problem. The blocker rings have a friction side (like clutch bands) and when the get saturated over time with a top quality lube, they will perform better and shifting improves.

they just got a ship date for the reverse gear, july 26th and they still dont have a date for the blocker ring. this is probably the worst time to not have a corvette in western new york. bummer.
got the car back wednesday. there must have been a hold on the parts until GM exited bankrupcy. the shifter has yet to give me trouble shifting into reverse, which is definately an improvement. now I can go back to enjoying my commute to work everyday
