Default It Was Bound To Happen...

After 76k miles, it's finally time to put new brakes on my '05 coupe.

The OEM pads have served me well but I want to get a new pad that has less dust and was wondering if ceramic pads would be a good choice?

Any recommendations are appreciated.

TIA...

How did you get that many miles from your brakes???!!! Yes GM ceramic low dust pads are a great mod.

I can't imagine too much dust if your oe pads lasted 70k+ miles...you might have to step on the pedal on the right a little more and with firmer pressure

Yes, ceramic pads would be less dust, but slightly less performance.

Hey John,

Call me when you get a minute, we need to catch up. Get the GM Ceramics from Gene Culley, they will be fine for your driving style, quiet and dust is non existent.

Hawk ceramic pads are also great and from what I've been told, have a slightly different composition than GM ceramics--they are probably a bit more expensive than the GMs--depends on your driving style. If you've gotten 70K out of your stock pads though, GM would
probably be fine.

I got 98k miles from the front pads and 102k from the rear pads on a daily driver once...

Thanks everyone...I will go with the GM ceramics...

Craig,

I will call you this week...glad to see everything came out okay on the knee...

I do a lot of highway miles going to Sebring/Ohio/Georgia for ALMS races, Upstate New York and other distant places.

Next on the list is Mosport in August and then back to Georgia in Sep for Petit LeMans.

Stay away from Performance Friction. I tried them last brake change.. hard pedal, and they don't grab well AT ALL when cold, DESPITE being labeled "best for everyday street use". I'm going to be changing them out asap.

Stay with Hawk or GM.

I went with Carbotech Bobcat pads on my C6 Coupe. I've been really happy with Hawk Ceramics on my DD Infiniti G35 Coupe.

I just went with the Hawk Ceramic Brakes on my 06 C6 and 06 CTS-V.

The CTS-V has a major brake dust problem before the swap. That car has big Brembos stock and the wheel would look horrible after one drive. With the new Ceramic brakes, the wheels look clean for over a week!!!. I LOVE THEM.
