Default Cold air intake

Hi,just replaced front grille on my 08.In the process I had to remove the air dam which got me thinking about some mods to improve cold air flow to the air filter. It looks to me that the "wings" on each end are designed to block the air that would flow to each side of the air filter. It seems to me that if you trim away some portion of the upper half of each wing more cold air would get to the engine.Has anybody tried this or gave it some thought?
Keep waving,Ray

I did that and also cut the shroud directly below the air filters. IAT's run 5 to 10 degrees cooler so you know the air is getting there.

I wondered about doing that if going with a non-vararam or non-bpp intake that is sitting in there open. You have any pics or tips?

Don't have any pictures, I am using the stock system with K+N filters. I also opened up the stock filter covers and used some HVAC foam pipe wrap to seal the stock rain guard. This keeps the warm engine compartment air away from the the cooler ambient air.
