You can purchase the Prestone DOT 4 at Walmart for ~$3. Pick up two bottles. Also, in the automotive section, where they have the motorcycle parts, they have a very nice syringe for around $4-$5.
I put an old towel on the front fender, then a plasic trash bag, then cover with a second towel. I stuff another old towel down around the brake an clutch master cylinders. Brake fluid will strip your paint job so you can never overdo your precautions.

If you want to drain it properly, you'll need to get at the bleeder port on the clutch slave cylinder. It's located very inconveniently on top of the bell housing, inside the tunnel.
It's a real drag to access, so once you do you'll want to permanently install a remote bleeder line so you never have to do it again.
Most people opt to skip all this and freshen up the clutch fluid by repeatedly diluting it at the reservoir (a.k.a. "Ranger's method.") This seems to work okay.
I've done 700+ drag strip passes, 150 road-course laps, 85K street miles driving five different C5s/C6s without any clutch pedal issues.
The absence of issues is due to using the protocol cited above involving keeping the clutch fluid clean via the reservoir. None of these cars had the clutch bled, rather fluid swaps were done via the reservoir.
I have installed remote bleeders on my cars but don't use them. Too much of a pain. Easier to swap via the reservoir. The bleeder is for the possible benefit of the eventual new owners once I sell the cars.
