I have 2005 Coupe. Steering Column Lock message is displayed. Can't start the car unless I play with the ignition switch. Anybody else have that problem?

There have been reports of intrinsic column lock problems, but most with that error message were simply dying batteries throwing codes. If your battery is fine, and the car does start after messing with it, then you may have a bad steering lock.
Thanks for the info. I did take it to a Chevy dealer and they said they no errors cam up. I'll have to wait until it happens again and have the car towed in!

It was one of the big nightmare themes on the C5s, I was surprised to see it carried over to the first year of the C6.
Thank the Feds for the C6's worst nightmare too.
Roughly 1/3 of '05 MN6 owners posting on this forum had at least one episode of DBS, dreaded battery syndrome, a consequence of the column lock.

First, I had the original, 4yr old battery replaced. The car still failed to start every time. So, I had the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) and both FOB's reflashed. That was about 4 hours of electrical diagnostic and repair work. It solved the problem. Interestingly, after the repair, I noticed that the doors opened much more quickly. I had just gotten used to ~1 second delay from the time I depressed the door pressure pad until the time the latch motor retracted.
My 97 and my 98 both had the steering column lock problem. Cost on the 97 was $600 out of my pocket and two tow bills. The 98 had same problem and it cost $700 and three days in the shop to repair plus towing. GM failed to pay for either problem. I hope it doesnt happen to my C6. GM is terrible for taking care of their many, many problems.
Put the C6 in the shop with a local dealer. They tell me it's an electronic module that is located deep into the dash board. Need to remove dash. Total estimate $1200.00
Now for the good part- They can't locate the part. Seems no dealers have it. I told them to call Bowling Green! They said that they have to go through a channel of searches. So
I have to wait. If anybody has any connections on getting parts I would appreciate it!
