Default Anyone Have Problems With A Cam Install?

has anyone had a problem with their car after a cam install? i am not referring to a problem that resulted in selecting the wrong cam. like surging or loss of driveability. i mean simple mechanical problems like;

leaks (oil or coolant)
paint scratched
exterior parts not put back properly

i just want to know what to keep an eye out for once i get my car back.

tks, dal

One thing you missed. The tune. The guy did a great job on the install
no leaks, all parts put back together and great power. The only problem is bucking at low speeds and surges. I did not bring it back as Im getting a pro tune in a few weeks. This is not from selecting a real big cam or a totally wrong pick from some guy over the phone. I believe my problem is all in the tune and experts have told me so. I hope you have a PRO TUNER doing the install or on hand to tune after the mechanic is
done installing the cam.

I had no issues with my car, but then again I did all my own work. Minus the tune.

I sliced open the o-ring to the oil pump pickup upon re-assembly. The symptom was a ticking from #7 when it warmed up. Everything had to come back off to put in a new o-ring... The reason is airated oil hits #7 first and prevents the lifte from pumping up. Make sure to put the o-ring on the pickup and insert the pickup into the pump, do not leave the o-ring in the pump recess and attempt to insert the pickup.

why don't you ask the installer? and tell him you don't EXPECT to have any probelms, with a COMPETENT mechanic there should'nt be any problems, if you don't trust the shop don't let them do the work!

I have tuned that exact cam so many times and not once was there a driveability issue. Its small.

well no one "expects" to have problems or you would not use that shop. i am just trying to get a feel for real world hiccups that can happen anytime you tap into a motor. however it sounds like if you have a good mechanic and a good tuner it should all be okay..

When i picked up my car after the cam install, i drove it 300 miles within 2 days just to make sure there was no problems. And i mean i drove it hard. Not a single problem so far, except the enormous smile. Your gonna love that rumble.

Not a problem with the cam but keeping rear tires on the car has been a PITA! The only other regret is not doing it SOONER!
