They are HID lights so I guess that's why the high price but other than that, no idea.

HID means high intensity discharge. They are a high voltage lamp with an integral igniter base. Not a simple light bulb with a filament. Much more complex = much more money.
HID's change color slightly as they age. You may find that the new lamp, even an OEM, may appear whiter/bluer than the old one on the other side of the car.
High visibility has it's price.
