So first off I bought a used 06' coupe black 6spd. it has aftermarket exhaust i do know of, and it has replica z06 wheels it looks like to me.
It has 55k miles on it, started life as a leased car for two years and then another guy owned it shortly for maybe 5k miles anyhow, someone needless to say has done some things, under the hood whoever modded it chose to paint things yellow, as he painted the calipers yellow also, but there is a K&N intake up front and looks to have headers. A few things I'm after here, to find out what you all think of me going out and getting other exhaust or intake and such that I have read about or should I assume that these are probably getting me as much out of my car as Im going to get for the mods done. And I wonder how much hp ahead I am of stock, and if I went back to stock would I notice that big of a difference(not saying I will or want to, just curious)
never been to a dyno dont know if I could even find time off work for taking it to the dyno as I dont know if there is one close to me
You should never get a car you dont know whats been done to it. Its probably got an aftermarket tune on it too. I would get it scanned and find out whats been done to it.
Depending on what exhuast you have its probably not going to get any better. Look into what else you have and where you can improve it. Your intake probably isnt one of the better ones if you just have drop in K&N's. If so buy a honker or something similar.
It was a decent deal and ive been wanting a corvette still kinda spur of the moment....but yea id like to have someone look it over to tell me what all i got, it looks like a regular cai setup for the k&n though but i cant find one for the car anywhere so might just be a sticker or something who knows. Sorry for the caps doing report for work
Dont know what your smog laws are where you live, but if it has long tube hedders, you may have trouble getting it to pass. I know some states you dont need a test for the first several years for new cars ........
Was there any warranty with the car? Was it purchased from a GM dealer? If so, an aftermarket tune can void the powertrain portion of any warranty. Fellow on the Z06 forum is dealing with this now, car purchased less than a year ago, motor pops, dealer informs him it had a tune in it, no warranty...
so thats another worry of mine, i bought it from a gm dealer, used of course, they didnt get it off the last owner from what carfax told me they had gotten it off another dealer. I bought the vehicle with 55k miles give or take and they gave me like a 35000mile warranty bumper to bumper everything cept for rims tires and such...so i am wondering, whats the chances when they say something i can be like this was all already done when i bought it off of you....or since they had it in its present form if they give me that warranty they are covering it with whatever tune is or isnt on it

Problem is the dealer will not be the one denying the warranty, it will be GM. If a major powertrain component fails, GM will require the servicing dealer to verify CVN's in the ecm. If they do not match the stock tune CVN's, then warranty (from GM's position) will be denied.
Here is the thread from the Z06 forum:http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...-warranty.html
If you are good with the dealer, and can convince him that you have not touched the car, I would have them run the CVN's and give you a printout and a signed statement that the car is under warranty with the current ECM programming.
Can you take some pic and post up here. You said it "Looks" to have headers. CF members can help identify if it does or not..
BTW, welcome to the Corvette Forum, and Corvette's in general..(also known as Perma-Grin society ) Don't forget to wave...
well i had a notion to go back to the dealer and ask them about it and tell them it is the same as when i had it and see if i can maybe get them to sign something as you said and if not make sure i still have the warranty but just reset the tune...and thanks for the welcome i love it on here...and i will wave to every vette i have, catch my self waving to people driving corvettes down the road and im in my company truck and surely they are thinking do i know that guy? haha...now if i was in my vette they would be smiling and waving back im sure, its just no fun watching someone else enjoy a sunny day and me drivin my company ride to the drilling rigs...ack...
speaking of which, ill post pics of my engine bay and everything i can think of next time im back home, maybe be a week or two though i have to literally live on the rig...the forum keeps me slightly sane..haha thanks for the help so far everyone
i will get pics of engine bay first chance i get, just have to get my gf to email them off my computer from home, i did stop and speak with someone at the dealership and they said they think it is ok and that its not a gm warranty. id still rather have it in writing but the guy i deal with there wasnt in today so next time im around ill get something for it. now i got to looking and yes the intake appears to be just a drop in k&n deal , headers im not sure about i dont know what it looks likes stock so we will see i guess. pics to come
Yep, them be headers. Now go see if the dealer can give you a print out of the CVN numbers + written statement that he sold you the car with warranty, with those CVN numbers.
If they are American Racing, there will be a welded tag on the passenger side that says "American Racing"..I have them, good header...
I would be very wary of that "35000 mile bumper to bumper" warranty. Find it hard to believe that a dealer would give someone that type of protection on a car with obvious mods and 55k on the clock.
