OK, I will fess up. I gave it due diligence trying to remove the pin. No luck. I finally just sawed the stock pedal in half. I love the new metal ones. No intention of ever reinstalling the plastic pedal.

I tried using a socket and C-clamp with out much success, except for the kink in my back. I ended up using a small pair of side cutters, (micro-electronics size) wedged in behind the head of the pin to get it started moving. Then a pair of small vice grips pulled it out. It took less than 3 minutes with the pliers..

removing the pin
When you feel behind the pedal there is a spring there that clips onto a slot in the pin just release the spring and the pin will slide out. It is like a close hanger spring has a u-shape on the prdal that can be lifted off.
Did it for a friend of mine took 5 minutes to take off and put new heel toe pedal on.
