I'm reading conflicting information on torque converters on the A6. Some say they lock up fine while there seem to be numerous ones that state that they do not work properly and lockup correctly on the A6...
Can anyone shed some light on this. I was considering getting a Yank but if I loose proper lockups in 5th and 6th it just won't be worth it...
PS: For those that do have them do you need to run external coolers for the trans fluid?
I have a Yank ss3600, I had an issue with my Tcc tables, no problems since then!!!
It drives and locks up great, and it cut my 1/4 times by .2 !!
I have over 4,000 miles on it!!

i have a yank 3600 and it work great on my bolt on only car but i do have 3.42s. there is a couple of guys on here that run this size converter (one has a yank and i think the other has a precision) with stock 2.56 gears they say it drives great but i would think it would seem sluggish with stock gears, i guess its all in the tuning. i never had a problem with my converter locking up, right around 35mph or so while driving normal it locks up. like i said i think its all in the tuning so try talking to subfloor he's had alomost every set up and does his own tuning and some others. o i do have a b&m trans cooler and would recommend one just to be sure plus it alot cheap insurance.
if you do decide to get a torque converter then you better get some good tires for the track and take it easy on the street.
I have one with a PI 2400 stall and 3:15 gears. The only real complaint I have now is that the downshifts aren't quite right all of the time. Lockup is fine, although I asked my tuner to move the lockup speed up to 41 MPH because at 35 or so it was going into 6th gear and causing a slight shudder or vibration. I have a Ron Davis radiator and have had no heat issues with the converter, even on days were it is 110+ in traffic.
If you're having problems with your converter, then it's either a problem with the converter you have or tuning....it isn't a systemic problem for converters in general on these cars.
I had a nice, extensive conversation the other day with a shop that hand builds converters and plan on getting mine in about a month or two. 3400-3500 converter will be ripping up the tires this winter
