Default Dealer cannot program remote

06 C6 Dealer tried to program new remote from their parts dept, for #2 fob and after over an hour gave up. they couldn't get program to start. I later bought a new remote from GM and tried to program at home, program would not start. trunk key will open trunk so must be the right key. I have tried both add remote and reprogram all remotes.#1 remote is working....

Cycle the trunk key 5 times within 5 seconds and it will light up the dashboard. click the accesory button once and you'll get a 10 minutes countdown do the 10 minute count down 3 times for a total of 30 minutes. after the last countdown put the key in the glove box and it will program it and ask you for key fob 1 after key fob one it will ask you for key fob 2 and key fob 3.
p.s. make sure that your key fob is 30 ft. away from the car while it is performing the 3- 10 minute count downs.
hopefully that helps because I had to do it about 2 months ago.

The long program is supposed to be the way to get it done without fail. I think the guy above listed the procedure. This is the same thing but laid out in better format. I saw this earlier today and said, I'm copying that for future reference.

C6 Fob Programming, long version to erase car memory and reprogram all Fobs. Any lost Fobs that are not reprogrammed with this procedure will no longer work on the car. Lost Fobs that are later found may be added to the car with the short programming procedure. This procedure requires three consecutive ten minute waiting periods, so plan on spending about a half hour to do this, during which the car may not be moved. Remember that the number printed on the Fob only indicates the way it was first programmed at the factory. All Fobs are identical. The order in which they are placed in the glovebox slot determines what number the Fob is.

1. Car off
2. Trunk open
3. Glove box open
4. Make sure NO Fobs are anywhere near the car. IMPORTANT.
5. Put key in trunk keyhole and turn key five times in less than 5 seconds.
6. DIC will now beep and light up and say “Off/Acc to learn” If you decide at this point NOT to do the programming now, push the TOP half of the Start button and the car will return to normal. To continue with programming:
7. Push bottom half of the Start button. DIC will say to wait 10 minutes and will start counting down the minutes. You may close the trunk and car door while waiting for the ten minute countdowns, so that the interior lights go off. Leave the drivers window down so that you can get in if the ‘autolock’ happens.
8. After the first 10 minute countdown, DIC will again say “Off/Acc to learn”. Push bottom half of Start button again. DIC will again start counting down the ten minutes.
9. After the second 10 minute countdown, DIC will again say “Off/Acc to learn”. Push bottom half of Start button again. DIC will again start counting down the ten minutes.
10. After this third ten minute period is over, DIC will say “Ready for Fob #1” Regardless of the number on the Fob, the FIRST Fob that is put in the glovebox slot will be recognized as Fob #1. Put the first Fob in the glovebox slot with the buttons facing to the right (passenger) side.
11. After 3 or four seconds the DIC will beep and say “Ready for Fob #2”. Put the second Fob in the slot. The car will take a maximum of four fobs. When you have no more Fobs to program, push the bottom half of the Start button to end the programming session.
12. Test all buttons on the fobs to make sure they work, then take all fobs away from the car and, one by one, try using each to start the car.

Back from the dealer today...In attempting to program new remote using trunk key procedure they wiped out my old remote. They had to hook up to tech II and reprogram everything. They do not know why but trunk key program still does not work, but they did get both remotes working. Total time on labor was an hour and a half and I am good to go.Service rep. tells me some vettes work and others don't,so if your's doesn't it's off to the dealer....Thanks everyone.

The button that works this is built in to the key switch above the license plate. It is a small piece of rubber about 1/4" square and 3/4" long. This rubber piece houses a push button switch and slides in to an opening on the side of the key switch. There is a "ramp" inside the key switch that makes contact with the push button switch as you turn the key. Maybe that rubber piece has gotten pushed out of its slot on the side of the key switch enough that the "ramp" will no longer make contact. You can bypass the key switch by removing the rear carpeted piece that covers the rear latch. Somewhere below the latch you will find a small black connector with two wire. Just unplug, plug, unplug, etc. 5 times within 10 seconds to mimic the turning of the key. If this works it will narrow down the problem to the key switch.

This picture is from an 05 convertible. Notice that the two wires come in with the cable from the key switch that opens the latch.

Hey Ranger 69,
Whiteboy here. Almost your neighbor. Hamburg Pike in Jeff. Did you go to the dealer in Clarksville or to a Louisville dealer?

I used this procedure today on my 2005 Coupe. Worked perfectly!

Thanks eboggs!!
