I have an 07 Coupe with 7,xxx miles. The engine light came on and I have tried the following to no avail: 1) Made sure gas tank cap was on tight; 2) Have gone through two tanks of gas from different stations (Exxon/BP); 3) checked electrical connections around MAF. What other things should I check for and for future problems what scanner tool would you recommend?
I know sometimes getting to a dealer can be a pain in the rearend. You might try going to Autozone or one of the auto parts stores that offer free code reading. I personal don't trust some dealers when it comes to my vette. I purchased a PocketScan Plus by Actron. Not the greatest tool, but all I wanted was something that I could read the code, so I would know what it read before taking it somewhere to ensure they read the same thing. Plus it will allow me to erase the code if I want to. I like doing most of my own repairs, but my car is not under warranty. But be advised, most repairs that show up on the scan tool require more computer diagnostic anyway and can't be fixed by the average joe. So, you will end up at the dealer or other shop anyway. Not sure if that helps or not.
I appreciate your response. I have been working on my own cars for over 40 years and, like you, always to try to figure out the problem and if possible resolve it. Many times it is something very simple and the effort of me fixing it is less, in my opinion, that the effort/stress associated with the dealer experience.
