Took my '05 out today....All good...I need gas...I fill my tank....Check engine light comes on "Service Fuel System" and the fuel gauge reads empty. On the way home it went to a half of a tank (tank full) twice but has been dead the rest of the day. I hear it could be a sulfur deposit thing?? I was told to use Sea Foam or Techron and see if that clears it up?
Any thoughts on what the %$#% happened here? All was fine....I know when I go to the dealer they are going to try to ream me...

This happened to me with a Z06 at Bondurant, about 3/4 through the 2nd day. Don't know what caused it.
Put a can of fuel system cleaner like Texaco Techron and fill it up with gas. If the level sensor is working at all, it will clear the message. This was a very common problem on C5s and results from the error checks made by the computer on the two tanks after a tiny bit of corrosion on the sensor. It was so common out here in West Texas that I always carried a bottle or two of the Techron additive on Corvette club trips because someone always had a problem, usually at 1/2 tank level. Replacing the sensors is expensive and does not eliminate the problem, just fixes it temporarily. Try the additive and a full tank first. Then carry the additive with you after that or put a can in every few months.

I had this happen to me on my 05 once back in July. The message hasn't come back so I left everything alone.
There have been threads in the past about "low" quality gasoline causing the sender to get a coating causing the problem. The 'cleaner' has been shown as a fix. And use one of the "Top Tier" gasolines to prevent problem. (I use Conoco/Phillips with NO ethanol)

x2 - my c5 does this now and then, it's the sender in 1 tank, a bottle or two of (Chevron?) Techtron cleaner takes care of it most of the time. Do it when filling up 1/2 before the fillup, 1/2 once filled to get some in each tank.

yea it's chevron, make sure to use the 21 gal bottle, just one more thing the 05 has in common with a C5
