Tranny in my 06 vette lost 5th and 6th gear. it seems to be locked in 4th and im pretty confused as to what to do. it has a vortech S/C and was tuned by a very reputable shop my issue isnt with the tuner but i dont know what could have happened to cause this. it is an A6 tranny with 29,xxx miles maybe 1200 miles since the S/C and tune. i am not mario andretti with the car but i also dont drive mrs daisy so yes i have made some hard runs with no problems. been babying the car for about 3 weeks cause i had a fuel pump fuse blow and it left me stranded in south florida. any known issues with the A6 failing like this. right before it happened it made squealing sound like a band was trying tocatch but couldnt idk any help is appreciated

Sorry to hear that SSgtUSAF,,,,, A lot of A6s go out after the SC is installed. But it seem that I remember you having somewhere around 560 RWHP 500 RWTQ. I think I heard anything over 550 and it was a given that the A6 would not hold up. The bad part is I don't think there is a stonger A6 out there yet. Again sorry to hear about the tranny and Good Luck with your next one. PS You might want to harden up your rear-end also or at least start saving for it.

I'm not expert by any means. You might want to check out the C6 FI/Nitrous they can and will give you all the info you want. BTW,, Thanks for your Service...... God Bless Your Family for their Sacrifice... 20+ USAF here.
You should take it to the dealer or a reputable transmission shop ASAP! Before you damage anything else.
Can't find the link to a thread with similar problem, but the ring that holds the clutches in the canister broke off and the guy lost 4,5,and 6th gear.

I would tune some torque management back into the tranny after you get it fixed. Most tuners tune TM out so it shifts hard. With TM enabled your timing advance with decrease at shift making it easier on the tranny.
thanks guys i appreciate your appreciation. well after some research its gonna cost north of $4k for a gm tranny with a 3 yr warrenty or between $1400-$4k on a built RPM transmission with a 90 day warrenty i have heard great things about RPM but 90 days barely covers a break in period. idk what to do i think Christmas will be a bit slim this year. i want the car to be fixed but dont want to spend the money just to have another issue happen outside of a warrenty

Will GM warrenty a new A6 placed in a S/C car, I would think they would only cover a stock configuration ?

Cole,
I would not count on GM honoring a 3 year warranty on anything other than a stock car. A performance built tranny from a reputable shop like RPM would be built for severe duty service and although the "warranty" isn't what you might be looking for the reality is that you will get much better life/service out of a transmission built for your application. Your stock tranny lasted a total of 1,200 miles behind that motor!
Personally I would not even consider another stock tranny behind your s/c motor.
I will be dynoing my head/cam/fast/converter/125 shot car tomorrow......it's at 43k on the stock tranny but only probably 1500 or so miles with the motor work and has yet to be sprayed

i agree about GM and warranty only being good for a stock car but the shop here swears he's had modded H/C/I cars get warranty. idk sounds sketchy i just need to know more about RPM as far as how good are they really? i hear they are but dont know who actualy has a RPM Tranny. either way if i spend the money to get it fixed and it happens again the car may mysteriously catch fire in a vacant lot some where j/k but it will be set back to stock and probably sold

Cole - Sorry to hear about the trans issues. We have almost the same set up. Motorhead-47 and I played around with the torque management as I could not stand the harsh shifts especially the downshifts after the S/C install. When I took it to Mike Norris, I made it clear that I wanted the trans to shift smooth but still offer the performance advantage the S/C provides. Mike did an awesome job on setting it up exactly where I wanted it.
I have just under 2000 miles on my set up and so far so good. You and I probably drive differently as you use your car as a DD I believe. If mine was a DD I would take the performance option with the RPM trans or one that was designed to handle the additional torque. If anything should go wrong with mine, I'll be looking for the strongest built A6 available.
