Default US to Euro conversion.

Hi guys,

Just to follow up and see if anyone has some insight - my expat contract is ending 9/15/2010, so the clock is ticking.

When doing the US to Euro conversion there are two routes to take, I have taken the first.

Route 1: Add electronic circuits to make the turn signals and headlamps washers function appropriately.

Route 2: Change the country code location to EUR from the initial US.

Cliffside notes:

Route 1: requires quite some circuitry thought. Main issues to deal with are hyper flash. I have a rear electronic circuit that works just fine for that. The rear fog lamps are attached to the front fog lamps through the appropriate relay control.

My currently unaddressed issues in the rear side are the signal lane change and the flash when vehicle off (indicating locked/unlocked car).

In the front side, my unaddressed issues are the headlamp washers and if I use the same circuit as the back, the lane change signal will be none functional but the DRL will be inactive.

In my current state for route 1, I have been able to install a load circuit that only activates when the turn signals are activated to minimize heat and current draw (no load when only braking)

I have not attacked the solution for the front yet because I am looking for a dual color light bulb (amber/white). This will allow me to have a white DRL and an amber turn signal in the front and be compliant with 2011 regulations in Europe (will be a plus as I am not 100% compliant. The self leveling feature is something I can't get to work).

My issue is distinguishing the moment the front turn signal becomes a DRL lamp (white) from the moment it becomes a turn signal indicator (amber). Catching the chalk stick position doesn't help for the lane change signal feature (my current problem with the rear turn signals).

Route 2: Two solutions down that road (based on my readings on this forum, have not tested).

Advantage: Lights works as defined by EURO regulations. Front turn signals are no true turn signals; no DRL. (DRL in Europe have to be white and are not mandatory in many countries)

Drawback: XM Radio, OnStar and onboard phone none functional. Not a real issue if the car is in Europe because those features are not available over there.

Sol 2.1: Change to EUR, recycle and change to nothing.

Sol 2.2: Change to EUR, install EUR chalk stick, steering column lock, ...

Anyway questions:
1. has anyone successfully executed road 2 and at what cost?
2. Any ideas for the front headlamp washers?
3. Anyone know how to distinguish turn signal from DRL and know of a lamp that is actually dual color?

Thanks,

Cedric

For the dual color lights I have found these leds:

Although I don't know if they are available in the corvette form, the concern I have would be the hyper flash.

Sorry if I missed it in your write-up, but have you found the org/red taillights yet? If so, can you PM me the information of where to purchase and wiring schematic if handy.

Thanks.

If you don't get any definitive answers, you might want to post in the CCCUK (Classic Corvette Club UK) forum at http://www.corvetteclub.org.uk/

A lot of the guys over here have imported US spec cars and got them through the SVA test so should be able to answer your questions.
