Can I tow my 2008 manual trans C6 w/4 wheels down without causing any damage to the trans or rear end? If not, please explain what possible damage could be caused by "flat towing" several hundred miles at a time. I have towed other vehicles with no problems but am hearing the C6 might be a different case. Thanks for any info.
People tow C6's all the time with no issues. I've towed mine several times for up to 1100 mile round trips. But I'm not sure what you mean by "wheels down".

He meant dragging it on all four tires as opposed to flipping the car upside down and dragging it on its roof. Personally, I think it would be better to drag it on its tires than its roof. What about you?
I guess he is not getting a tow dolly or a full trailer..............

Assuming one could flat tow a C6 without damage to the transmission, what sort of base plate or hookup would you use? I would think a tow dolly would not work because one end would drag on the ground. Does anyone actually tow their C6 other than on a trailer? Thanks
I just put the windows down and then run the tow rope through from one side to the other, hook it up to the tow truck and go for it. Might want to put a towel where the rope hits the A pillar, it will cut down on abrasion from the rope.
Most important part is to run it through the steering wheel to keep the wheels pointed straight.
Second most important part is don't use a chain, it is hard on the paint.

You mean you want to somehow pull an unoccupied C6 with all four of its wheels on the road? What's your plan for going around corners? Also, keep in mind that it has no steering lock (not that it wouldn't be insane to rely on the steering lock while towing anyway).
The only time I've seen a four-wheel on the ground "flat tow" done with any car is when I see really bootleg setups. For example, I saw rope tied from the bumper of an old truck going into the grill and bumper assembly of a car behind it; of course, the car "in tow" had a guy sitting in there steering.
The only legit thing I've seen is a wheel dolly, where the front wheels are on a mini-trailer and the rears are dragging on the ground. I typically see this behind RVs who are towing "runabout" vehicles such as a Jeep Wrangler or small compact for use at the camping destination.
Now ya see, I wasn't getting the vibe to start with but now I see the light. This is easy. When I was 16 I pulled my best friends '66 Chevy II with my 66 Chevy II. His car had the engine out and steering wheel removed. The way we handled it was I had a rope (as mentioned above) tied to his front suspension to my axle while he steered with a pair of vice grips. This was totally safe and a piece of cake. However there are times when I wonder how we managed to reach the age of 17.
