Default headers at a decent price

http://speed-eng.com/store/kooks-hea...1453_2088.html

why are companies expecting us to pay 1500-1800 for a set of headers?

I can not believe these so called vendors want 1500-1800 for a set of headers and call it a sale. LS1 headers not much different from LS2/LS3 headers go for under 500.

If I order the headers off this site how important is it that I get a midpipe? does it really matter since I will be bottlenecked at my bullets?

BTW- I hope that is your evil brother-in-law's Dodge sitting in your driveway!

$940 for the headers and $460 for the Off-road mids still runs $1400.

I explained that last night in another thread but the OP couldn't comprehend that logic.

While I DO think the prices for most C6 parts should be lower based on the pricing of the same part for a different model car, I also have to admit that the prices listed in the "other" thread discussed are in line with brands offered through other vendors. Things to take into consideration are coatings offered, x-pipes offered, etc.

I have been looking at B&B long-tubes with a catted x-pipe and they are similar in price from what I've seen.

That's headers only, add the xpipe with high flow cats and the price goes right up to what the sponsors are offering. Prices are higher for headers for the C6, if you don't want to pay it don't. They will eventually come down when the C7 debuts. If you really want to complain about prices go check out the after market cat back systems. They cost almost as much as headers!

You can get a full set (headers and x pipe) from TSP and they are even ceramic coated for $800 or less.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...d-pricing.html

You can also buy my used set of LG's with cats when I yank them.

Or you could get a set of used Z06 manifolds/mid/hpipe for next to nothing with almost exactly the same results as headers... Ask me how I know....see sig!

Check out OBX headers or the Texas Speed Headers.

They are the only two reasonably priced setups out right now.

As the mods increase anyone will outgrow them, though they do work. They are also the heaviest option.

True, but either have Cats. That's extra $$ to add.

Cats are cheap...this is not a relevant point. Also going catless is the superior option if you arent concerned with emissions testing and want max power.

Still several hundred dollars cheaper if you add cats though as both cats can be bought for a little over 100 dollars.

Too bad no one can still pickup the stainless steel longtubes that were being sold on ebay. Best 400 bucks I've ever spent

Suggest you do some research on the price of hiflo cats these days.
They're a lot more expensive, as is everything, than when we did the ebay headers a few years ago.

I suggest that you do the same.

I believe the last time I checked on magnaflow cats that worked for us they were right at 60 bucks each from performance peddler.

Edit- just received a quote from them...cats are 68 bucks for the vette.

thanks guys, I has two Trans Ams with LS1 motors and spent under 500 for jet hot coated Hooker Super Comps. My x-pipe coated was under 300. Can't believe that these guys want 700-1000 more for a set of headers/xpipes. LS1 is basically teh same as our LS2 and LS3 motors. the pipes are bent a little different to fit a vette vs f-body or gto. Don't need Cats where I am at.

While I agree that headers are overpriced and you can get by with cheaper ones than Kooks and ARH and LG, those are the top of the line ones that you can buy. Full stainless steel, merge collectors, etc and the headers themselves are around $900, the midpipe for the corvettes are much longer than other cars so those are $600-$800 with cats. When you take out the stainless steel you cut the price almost in half. People that live where it snows cannot afford to run aluminized pipes on their headers or they will probably rust in under a year.

I checked Magnaflows website for their under $100 hi-flo cats and although they are cheap and flow better than stock, I do believe the hi-flos from Kooks and ARH flow better. Now I don't have any hard data to support this claim other than I gained 9whp on my 03 Cobra switching from Magnaflow cats to the Kooks hi-flos. Then I swapped to an offroad pipe on that car and gained 3hp/5ftlbs. Different car I know, but I was curious on how the Magnaflow cats affected power.

Many people want the best parts for their car and that is what Kooks and ARH and LG and all those other companies that charge $1500+ for their headers + midpipe are offering. You don't have to go that route, but if they were not available then I guarantee you there would be threads on why there are no good, top-of-the-line headers out there.

I am not rich by any means, I struggle and save to modify my car so I want the best for it. Plus, with their infamous names, if you ever decide to sell the headers they have awesome resell value.

Although I'm young I have learned through all of my heavily modded cars that in this industry, you really get what you pay for. Look at the Corsa catback. $1200+ for an axle back system? Who would ever pay that? Yet look at how many people run Corsa (I am guilty but I absolutely love the sound and it was worth every penny to me).

Some areas you can cut corners but the minute that corner comes back and bites you in the ***, you're going to be paying double what you would have in the first place.

I was considering LG's but I am personally a big fan of Kooks headers. Plus I am a dealer so that kind of helped with the decision LOL. I actually ran 2 sets of Kooks and 1 set of ARH on my Cobra and Kooks on my C6. Quality is one of the best, thick flanges so I don't have to worry about exhaust leaks, fitment is perfect, etc. Come on guys this is a Corvette, not a Honda Civic. And I'm asian so that's alot coming from me
