Went to the track over the weekend just to see what my s/c c6 m6 what do and broke my DTE diff! THIS ALL MY FAULT DO TO A LITTLE WHEEL HOP! Is there anything I can do to upgrade diffs? I purchased the best one DTE had at the time (stage 3 or 4) Some local guys are telling me to upgrade zo6 or a zr1 diff any difference between the two? Any help will be appreciated! thanks in advance
I know you can upgrade to the Z06 rear RPM makes a kit. But you made need the Z06 trans too. Ive heard stories that it can be done without the Z06 trans. I dont know for sure. Please Keep us posted
Good Luck
Wheel hop can kill even the strongest of diffs. It's the #1 diff killer, right next to too much power.
If I were you I'd solve that wheel hop problem asap. A ZO6 or a ZR1 diff would be a nice upgrade but pricey at the same time. If you keep your trans you will need to upgrade the main shaft so you can mate both units. ZO6 shaft has more splines. I don't know what you're budget is but there are quite a few options out there.
Sorry to hear about your diff...I'm in the same boat as you. I'm going the C5 diff route. A whole lot cheaper to replace that a C6 diff.
what causes wheel hop so I am sure to stray from it?
Better yet, what prevents it.
I read on here that Bilstein or Koni shocks helped, is that still the thinking? I plan to do Pfadt coilovers and sway bars after my H/C is complete, will that help?
I know the runflats don't help but I'm not ready to give them up just yet.
I'd rebuild your unit (if possible) and focus on shocks and tires if you haven't already done so.
the unit is shattered! but i do have PFADT shocks!

Planning to drag race soon, bone stock LS3 A6. Should I worry about wheelhop and breakage on stock supercars? Should I buy a set of wheels and drag radials first?

Definitely buy a set of drag radials. Not only will you get much better times but they're also designed to be a lot easier on your car. Granted I do have a lot of horsepower, but with my car I'm cutting 1.4xx 60ft times yet I'm only leaving at around 1300 RPM.

Hmm, are many A6 guys breaking their stock rear ends with stock hp and factory tires? I was going to get drag radials later for sure, but didn't want to shell out the money right now when it could be spent on headers or something else.
If you have a manual, you would be better off with ET Streets (bias ply). The soft compound and the nature of bias ply construction will allow for much more sidewall flex, thus easing the strain on the drivetrain. Allow the tires to absorb the shock of the launch, not the car.

And punt the 19" rims for track use and look into some 17" or 18" to get some sidewall to flex.
