I recently purchased a 2007 coupe (5000 miles on the speedometer) with a 6 speed manual and after I let it set for 2 weeks, I went to start it and it was a NO GO. It acted like a low battery which checks 11.5 volts. The Owner Manual says battery should be 13.5 V. After installing charger for 10 minutes, the Corvette started, I drove around to several places and it started fine several times last Sunday afternoon with Amp Gage ( 13.5 V) . One of my co-workers (a corvette forum member) says that I if I plan leaving it set for three days or longer, and then place transmission in REVERSE. I parked it until last night (5 days later) and went to start, the lights flashed, starter clicked once, and nothing. Sounds like a loose cable connection. Right? I can’ find a loose cable. Battery cable connectors are as tight as can go. After installing charger for approximately 10 minutes, it started and I drove over to pick up a friend. The car would not start (same history factor) but after connecting the jumper cables to labeled connection points, I went directly to the car seat, depressed the clutch and hit the starter button and it started. I drove it immediately back home and park it into the garage, History repeated itself and it would Not start again without attaching battery chager for a approximat one minute. Last week I called the Original Owner said that he had similar problems when he let it set for long periods. GM warranty replaced the battery once for him. I thought I would ask for advice the forum membership before taking to a dealer. My corvette is still under GM Warranty until JAN 2010.
Take the car to the Dealer and have the battery replaced while you are able to drive it there. The Dealer send a tow truck to get my C6 because the battery went dead and I could not get it to start. They replaced the bettery at no cost to me, it was just 2 year old. I have trickle charger the I've been using for around a year and a half now. I've also been driving the car much more. Hope things work out for you.
I also have an 07 and have replaced the battery three times with only 14K on the clock. I have decided that it is the battery that GM puts in the car. I have installed an Optima and have had no further problems with the car. the dealer went thru all sorts of explanations and excuses, but none made any sense at all. The last time it happened I had driven the car all week so it was not because it had been left sitting, went to start it the next day and nothing. Just can't say enough about the quality of the components GM uses.
I think the part about leaving it in reverse only applies to 2005 models. I have an 07 model that I got January of this year but I have not had any problems with the battery. It is a DD though.
Reverse was for the 05s. I sit in neutral all of the time and no issues. It is a daily driver. If you are going to sit for weeks at a time a battery tender is a good investment.
The battery/charging system on all 'Vettes is marginal at best. If you have any aftermarket electronics wired in or plugged in (even a cell phone charger) to a lighter socket you will have battery problems.
