I am not happy to say but my 05 vette has flood damage to it. I know how bad this is especially since i work at a car shop. I drained 2 maybe 3 quarts of water when changing the oil and since the computer sits so low it also got wet along with the air filters as well. Anyhow i decided to file an insurance claim.. which is easy bc my dad is my agent. State farm did not total out the car bc the water was not high enough to ruin anything in the cabin and figured they could save it. I know my car and when she's lost power.. I decided the guys at my shop weren't cut out to work on my baby and that i'd take it to one of my preffered mechanics that i worked with in the past so i did. I also spoke with a gm tech who told me to check the computer for water and run a compression test on the engine. He told me when the computer gets wet and the engine takes in water most the time a new or rebuilt engine is needed. He said the problem would most likely be with cylinders 7 and/or 8. I took the info he gave me.. ran a compression test everything looked alright yet the computer had gotten wet. at this point it was still at my shop... we finally got it started and my guys told me it was fine but i begged to differ.. i got into my car and said right away.. this isnt my car its not right. i felt the power loss and she didn't sound right.. so i drove right past my shop and gave it to one of the best mechanics i know. he said he didnt even have to drive it to know it was wrong.. we were thinking a bent rod. i dropped it off. found out cylinder 8 was misfiring.. gm guy knows what he's talking about. anyways instead of going with a rebuilt engine and computer like we had talked about my mechanics boss said only computer and that he didnt think the new engine was a good idea.. after all the work was done i got my car back.. that was today. i got in and knew it wasnt right.. not as bad but not right. i met up with my mechanic and said its wrong he said no way so i told him to get in behind the wheel.. he felt it knocking and shaking.. looked under the hood and said it's cylinder 8. i knew it. so.. he thinks possibly a defective computer.. but in the back of my mind i remember what the gm tech told me and its sticking in my head... so does anyone know anything about this type of issue? state farm is now committed to fixing the car.. new engine? defective computer? what do some experienced ppl think?
thanks.
Could there be any better excuse to drop a LS7 in it?
thats exactly what i said lol. actually in the event that i have to rebuild the engine im going to pay for a cam and have it put in during the rebuild.. saves me the money id have to pay for 20hrs worth of labor. anyways i just had a new mechanic start today.. his son worked with me in the past and was good. anyways this guy is a god, master certfied in anything you can imagine. so i had him look at it and felt comfortable watching him run diagnostics on it with the 15 grand worth of diagnostic tools he has.. christ! this guy had everything. i handed him the keys and said take it wherever you want at whatever speed you need to find out whats wrong. its currently throwing 11 codes! maf.. misfire on cyl 8 and other bs. we've already ruled out a bad engine cause it's not a constant misfire which would mean issues with valve springs or push rods so i guess i'm just gonna have to take it one step at a time to get it going right.
