Default Gas cap issues???

Every few weeks my gas cap light comes on. I will put a little oil or something on the rubber seal and most of the time it will go off after a day or so. Is this a common problem??? If you guys have any answers on how best to fix this, I would be very interested in hearing them. Thanks.

You might want to consider replacing the gas cap.

You can purchase a gas cap from Gene Culley (GMPartsHouse.com) at this link:

If your local stealership has it in stock, it's only like $20.

There are several posts on faulty gas caps. It should be covered if your car is still under warranty.

Correct. I recall getting a letter from GM saying something about the gas cap.

Another thing is I read somewhere that you are not suppose to press down on the cap when screwing it back on.

I bought a new cap this morning from the dealership for 19 bucks. Problem solved. There was a noticable difference in the fit.
