Default Tech Help!!!!!

Driving home from San Diego to Vegas last night when the water temp gage slowly started dropping from my normal temp of 205.. 205, 200, 190, 180, 170 all the way to dead stick. Hit the buttons on the digital and it read XXX. Then a minute or two later “check coolant level” then “hot engine turn off AC”. I checked oil temp and it was normal with no signs of rising. I had checked all levels and fluids before the trip. So pulled over and checked the coolant level manually and it was fine, no signs off hot engine. Bubbling, burping, hissing or cracking. When to start car back up and very hard start, didn’t want to fire up. Let it sit for a bit and then it started and ran fine. Started down the 15N for about 5 miles and presto the gage was back to normal reading 205 coolant temp. Another 5 or ten miles and back to “check coolant level” then “hot engine turn off AC” and gauge was dead again. Then back to normal again..This continued back and forth every 15 minutes or so all the way home.. Approximately 10 times…

My questions are;
1) What the hell since there is no level switch to go bad in the 05 C6?
2) What these errors make the car not want to start?

2005 C6 30K miles, procharger, meth kit, kooks headers, mid and exhaust. 575rwhp 520 ft tq.
All mods been on and working great together for over 15k miles, nothing new to cause any problems…

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope,
Mine did the exact same thing and it was a bad sensor that's all. Replaced it for like 20 bucks.

Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS)
I really don't know the location of that sensor because I dropped my car at the shop and went to work.
The mechanic said the total cost was 20'ish bucks and took 3 mintues to replace.
P.S: You have to cool down the car before replacing it fist, and fill the radiator with water again.

My experience with C6s are that when modified whether it be a supercharged or cam, is that they tend to go crazy sometimes with the computer.I know its a hit or miss because i have friends that say they have no electrical issues but i also have friends with the same model tell me that after they tuned it or did modifications that one day the car just starts acting up.I believe these cars have bad grounding to begin with as i have experience first hand the symptoms vinnie has described only to take it in to the shop and have the computer reset and then the car drives fine.I have owned all types of high performance cars and to be honest the c6 has cost me a pretty penny.My advice is reset the computer ,meaning check for codes and then reset and it may fix the problem.Do this before buying any parts or taking stuff apart.If a reset fails then check the grounds etc.

the Coolant Temperature Sensor is located on the driver's side head. exactly under the alternator. it is just ahead of the header flange in the side of the head. inspect for wiring problems also with the wiring going to it. it is in close proximity to the header flange.

Inspect the harness, if no problem found replace the sensor. If your quick, you won't even have to burp the system.

Glad its fixed. The coolant temp sensor is one of the critical items in the engine control system. It tells the PCM/ECU the obvious, engine temperature but in turn, the computer then commands everything else such as the major item, air/fuel mixture, based upon that temperature which is why the significant impact from something so simple.
