Default Stl Corvette Repair shops

Looking for a reputable shop/tec that has handled a c6 before around the Saint Charles, MO area and can perform clutch installs. I checked Schroeder Motors, but they were booked untill December at the earliest.

I don't know for sure, but....

try:
Coleman-Taylor Transmissions 636-939-3444
They have worked on my C3 and C4 Corvettes with great work.
Hwy-94 South near Jungermann Rd., by Harvest Lanes Bowling Alley.

Also, last resort is the dealers
Treanary Chevrolet on Hwy-K at Hwy-40 is suppossed to have a dedicated Corvette Mechanic. I do know they have the cleanest shop I have ever seen! Really!

Redline hands down, it's in South County but worth the drive, Andy will hook you up.

Shop
636-937-9760
Parts email
sales@redlineper.com
Misc email
redlinemotorsports95@yahoo.com

Stick your head in here too for info in the area. Young crowd but some of these guys have done about everything to their Vettes so the knowledge base is very good.

Elco Chevrolet in Ballwin also has a dedicated Corvette Mechanic, let me know if you want his name..he is the only person that works on my car besides myself...dealership has a body shop and I have seen many wrecked vettes there getting body work but do not know how good the body ship is personally.

I have read positive reviews about Andy from Redline as well but have no personal experience with his shop.

Please forgive a quick thread hijack.

What are some of the top St. Louis forums for Corvette or LSX owners?
Looking for tech info, not a cruise/social hangout.

Thanks

There's only one person in St. Louis who I'd let touch my Corvette, but he's not in St. Charles. He can do a clutch swap with his damn eyes closed, and completed the clutch job on my Z06 just recently.

For the record, STL-Speed is not for the faint of heart.

Thanks for the help guys. I figured out the problem. The line going from the clutch slave to master cylinder needs to be replaced if possible? If anyone could provide some insight that would be great. The link to the post is below..

I would either have the guy Dave (Dsteck) is recommending help you out or the vette mechanic at Elco if you want to use a dealership.

Either way you will get your car fixed up right the first time!

Good luck!

You are better off replacing the entire slave cylinder assembly. The line comes as part of the slave cylinder. If anything, you'll have to buy a slave assembly and remove the line from it to do the replacement.

Replacing just the line is possible with the torque tube up... but you'll hate life if you try to do it yourself without taking the torque tube back. The line connects to the master with a clip... pull the clip out and separate the line. The new line will just pop in (you have to push it on pretty hard). The other end that connects to the slave cylinder itself uses a screw-in fitting (I think). I have a used slave cylinder that I can check out when I get home and take a picture of to show you.

I can vouch for Bill , the Vette mechanic at Elco Chevrolet. He has alwys done an excellent job on my car. Their body shop is great, they have a corvette specialist who does all the vette body work. I have bought 3 vettes from Elco, and have always been satisfied with their service.

If I could just remove the line I would do that, but due to the lack of pictures I assumed the line would not separate from the slave. let me know thx!

You can separate the line from the slave...

I hate to break it to you, but the torque tube has to come back to replace it. There is a union for the lines, and a line that comes from the master to the union, and a line that goes from the union to the slave. If it's the union to the slave, you're boned. Let me know if you want the contact info for the guy who did my clutch. He's top notch, and has crazy fast turnaround time. You might as well put in an aftermarket clutch, though.

Corvette Bill as we know him, is the man. He is currently doing a complete frame off of a 427/ 66 for a friend of mine, and he also built my buddy's c6 ZO6. Nothing this guy doesn't know about a vette and the only person I would let touch mine.

I talked to Chad Barton (quickzoh6) about this, and he's willing to fix it for you. I can't speak for him, but chances are he could crap this out in a day. I have a slave cylinder with a good line sitting in my garage, too (I live at 141 and Manchester).

Default Clutch line

I used this and a Mityvac to bleed it. Loosen the headers, move them out of the way, cut the line and place this in-between then look up mityvac dry bleed. It cost me about $100 to fix it and it's been running fine.

I used this to fix mine and a Mityvac to bleed it. Been going strong for a few weeks now.

It's listed several times in the thread. Just ask for Corvette Bill - that's what they call him at Elco.
