I just got done with installing a set of Dynatech headers and have noticed a distinct increase in engine (noisy valve train type) noise. I expected an increase in the exhaust volume, but not an increase in engine noise. I just got the car back on the ground yesterday and don't have enough miles to retorque everything. Is this normal or do I have a leak someplace?
The added noise is normal and it also occured with me after I had new headers/cats/x / installed. Since the power output wasnt really noticable...i dont think id ever go the header route again . Id rather have a quieter operating motor.
Well I made a pass on all the bolts and found 3 that I could put a 1/4 turn on and a few others that moved a bit. Also I think I have a leak where the X meets the over axle pipes. I'm going to take it to a muffler shop tomorrow so they can put it on the rack with it running and see if they can find something

This comment is really surprising.....when I had AR headers & high flow cats installed on my '05 there was a distinct "seat of the pants" power increase. Included with the install was a dynamic tune (ECS in NJ), which I think is important with all engine mods. Did you have a tune done?

I was kind of suprised at that comment myself. The car hasn't been tuned yet - waiting for Chuck CoW's Houston visit - but I can still feel a significant difference. The engine revs easier and the car picked up .55 (12.56 to 12.11) at the track last night as compared to my last run 4 weeks ago. The car's at the muffler shop right now, I'll post the results when I get it back later today.

I gained 28rwhp/35rwtq and could really feel the difference. The increased noise is not significant to me, I really have to listen for it.

YES, you might have a leak! But, if you install headers and drive next to a cement barrier, you'll hear the "pinging" or exhaust pulse sound coming from the header pipes echoing off the wall when you step into the throttle...

I had them on a street driven C6 with a cam and had to turn the car off to order food at a drive through because it was so loud. I know, fast food is bad for you, too.
While we are talking car sounds.....A good friend put a new FAST 102 on his cam'd Z06 a few weeks ago....I told him it sounded like a shop vac on steriods when we finished....he didn't think it was funny

I took it to a muffler shop and it turned out I did have 2 leaks. Either the clamps didn't hold or while I was adjusting everything else the X to over axle joint slipped. I had a tiny leak from one and a pretty good leak from the other. The shop pulled it apart, added some sealer and tacked it when they put it back together. Major difference. I've still got more noise than stock, but its much, much better. Now all I need is the CoW touch .....
