Default How hot do cylinder heads get?

I thought I once read that aluminum cylinder heads can reach temps of 800 degrees F, and cast iron can be over 1,000 degrees F. Can anyone confirm this info? Also, I guess it would stand to reason that cylinder heads on a diesel engine probably run even hotter?

Uh, I don't think so. Not the whole head, anyway.

This is why they are filled with coolant. And oil which starts to breakdown over 300 degrees.

If the engine is run at WOT for extended time, it will tax the cooling system but it depends on how much power (heat).

I wouldn't be concerned about any of this.
