Default Car wont start

I went to start my car today and hit the start button and the car did not start. The service steering lock message appeared. I then tried charging my battery and tried starting the car again. The error message is gone but the car wont start. The lights etc go on, and the car has power, but the engine will not even turn over once and i hear no clicking. What could possibly be the issue? This is really bizzare.

I dont think its the start button because when i hit the start button, the accesories turn on. The battery is charged and cables tight. WTF??

I don't know what method you used to charge / evaluate the state of charge, but from your description I'd say it's a 90% chance you need to replace the battery.

Sounds like you have either a b2897,2907 or 2910 all related to steering column lock. I looked them up, but under the heading "action taken" it does not say disable starter. You may want to start out by installing a new battery in your fob and clearing the codes.
Record them 1st. Sorry, but I was unable to copy and paste info.

If I install a new battery, will that clear the codes? If not, how do I clear the codes? Also. what is "fob"?

This is total dejavue. I had a c5 vette when I was in college, and the stupid steering column lock was a lingering issue that I could never get fixed. I thought that 8 years later Chevy would have that problem under controll. dang.

I'll have to check on that, the codes may have to be cleared thru the obd port. the fob Is your remote you need to have in the car for it to start.

update**** I took off the positive terminal and reconnected it. The car started right away. There was probably an issue with the steering column lock. Either way, I agree, time for a new battery. Thanks for the help guys. As always, you rock.

sounds like the battery went really low and your chager is too light duty to fully charge it or the battery is really weak and needs replaced. Thats one issue wit htodays chargers,,they just cant pump enuf into a battery unless its over a longer period of time. one thing i might suggest and i also have is a battery jumper "box" these babys are pretty cheap (under 100 bucks) and will give you full boost right away and you wont have to go thru the geussing game like you in now. I have used mine a bunch of times, its so much easier to jump a car because even car to car charging is tricky and takes time and most guys cables are too light duty. good luck with it, paul

The '05 MN6 column lock is courtesy of the Feds.
But the service message code thrown is almost always a sign of a near dead battery coming back to life, not usually the column lock itself. The code should clear on its own with a good battery.
