Default Which Setup?

Any insight on this issue would be a big help!

I have a couple questions - being that I am new to this forum. I have a 2008 C6 and have been doing a lot of research on what bolt-ons to do.

This is what I have come up with.....

Intake, Long Tube Headers, Exhaust and a Tune really wakes this car up. So I still have some questions after researching. I could really use some help, these might sound like stupid questions to some of you....but I'm still learning so bare with me please =).

1.) Trying to decide between the new "LG Super Pro Headers" and "Kooks"... Obviously price makes the Kooks more appealing, are the LG's worth the extra dollars?

2.) Is a 7/8 too big for a bolt on setup? Should I stick with the 3/4?

3.) Love the sound of the SLP Loudmouth cat back, BUT It's 2 1/2 inch piping... is that too small running into the headers?

I guess I really just need to know if 3" all the way through is too much for what I'm trying to do. My original plan after reading and looking at all the set ups online - was to go with " LG Super Pro Long Tube Headers"(3/4), Off road pipes (instead of cats) right into the "SLP Loudmouth catback''....

Any suggestions would be great, just looking for some input, everyone on this forum seems to be very knowledgeable. Thanks!

Check in the C6 Parts For Sale. There is a Dynatech 1 7/8" complete package for sale by krf (last posted 7:05 PM yesterday). The Dynatechs I had on my '05 were an excellent header. The NPP or Z06 mufflers are the best of both worlds, loud when you want and quiet when you need quiet.

1 7/8" are the way to go, no loss of HP/TQ compared to 1 3/4" and room for expansion later if you decide to go FI, cam, etc.

Thanks for the input!

Get ready to laugh - what is the NPP? My C6 has the "dual mode" exhaust that I can open and close..\same thing? I know the zo6 is 3", NPP the same?

With the Bi mode (another name for the NPP) all you need is the headers, hi flo cats and midpipe. Your existing NPP will bolt right up. To me the NPP sounds better than any aftermarket since there is no drone with the flaps closed. If you decide to go with an aftermarket axleback your NPP take off is worth anywhere from $600 to $1,000 in the Parts for Sale section.

NPP is 2.5", Z06 is 3".

Volume and velocity of exhaust gases are reduced the further back you go so 2.5" is plenty for a 376 Cu In LS3, 3" would flow a little easier.

IMHO forget the headers/intake save your money! put your exhaust on with a real x-pipe and then have it 'TUNED" and then think about the rest, GM did'nt get 435hp out of that with out knowing a thing or two, it's not the old days where you could "UNCORK" a 350 and get a bunch of HP, tune it put your exhaust on the compare your #'s to cars that have ONLY the ones you left off, and you will be amazed on how close you will be and you'll still have $3000.00 in your pocket!

Your NPP exhaust is a great system.
The mufflers and over-axel pipes are 2.5"
The mufflers on the Z06 dual exhaust has 3" over-axel pipes into a 2.5" muffler.
The Z06 dual mode exhaust is tame compared to the C6 NPP, unitil you cut them apart and seal up a pipe inside.
Because the C6 NPP units are so expensive, new and used...I bought a pair of Z06 dual modes that I am in the middle of modifying to simulate the C6 NPP's

Thanks for all the feed back guys.

So what I'm grasping here is having a 2 1/2 stock NPP muffler won't hurt my HP/TQ gains - once I change the headers and mid pipe out to a larger diameter setup? Well - that saves me some cash!

How much does a shop usually charge to do a header install on the C6? (average). Is the intake really worth the money? I know what the manufactures are claiming number wise - but I would rather not pay to see if it's accurate...

The 1 7/8" headers,hi flo cats and a 2.5" midpipe that comes with the headers is great with your NPP, a fairly simple bolt on. I've seen anywhere from $350 to $600 quoted for a header install, I rented the use of a lift in a friends exhaust shop and paid him for the use of the lift and his tools.

Replacement filters and filter boxes are a whole other can of worms. I figure that since the stock LS3 uses the same filter as the 427 LS7 that the stock filter flows enough air. The only advantage to an aftermarket filter/box is that you can clean the filter instead of buying a new filter every couple of years (and the bragging rights). $400 for an aftermarket filter/box or $400 for stock replacement filters?

So - Thank you all for your advise!

I went with Kook's 1 7/8 (Catless) and the AirRaid intake. I have the NPP so I have the option of quieting the system down, WHICH I NEVER DO - It sounds like a monster and I love it.

It made about 407rwhp on a Mustang Dyno. Now it's cam time!

DO you have a M6 or A6?

if a A6 - you may want to look into getting gears and a stall before a cam..

You might want to think about going with B&B or Corsa Extreme's if you want it loud like I do. You would also cut about 30lbs off the car too

What cam are you thinking of going with?

I like the way my NPP sounds open - I like that dirty obnoxious note it has without cats. Plus I like being able to close it if I wanna F*** with somebody at a light and play "sleeper".

I'm going with the ECS cam package.

Nice. You come on the forum brand new, slap headers on, get it tuned, and now looking at a cam.

Judging from your avatar, you're a "go big or go home" kinda guy.

Glad to see some new owners being so enthusiastic about their Corvette.

Post up numbers when you get your cam done.

All BB's are either all in or all out.. there is really not much of an inbetween He is doing exactly what I did except when I put my cam in, I had my stock ls3 tb and intake ported and polished. THen I put in gears. Then I went FI.. I cannot believe how fast this thing is at 600rwhp with a stall and gears in a A6.. should be 7xxrwhp when I put more than 4lbs of boost to it Going widebody with rims first!

I know you BB'ers are freaks! I did a few year stint working in that biz with ol' Bill Phillips of EAS fame then over at Prolab.

Definitely some fun people to hang with.

The ECS package includes porting the oil pump and stock TB.

Yes, go big or go home baby. I'm taking this year off from competing, I have Nationals for the second time next year. So I figure I won't be competing why not take care of my new Vette - get it ready for the summer!

I will post numbers as soon as it's finished.
