Default 2006 Auto Transmission Problem

My transmission is shifting slowly from gear to gear and occasionally jerks into gear. Also, is very slow going into reverse. The car has 51,000 miles. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

First thing I would check is fluid level.

This is my first C6, how do I check the fluid level? I know how to check tranny fluid on my C3. Owners manual says dealer has to check it. If I'm taking it to the dealer, then should I just have the transmission serviced?

How does it act under WOT?
How has it been driven through its life (drag, track, etc...)?
Is your car stock? If not how much power it is making?
Has the trany ever been tuned?
Did the problems start all of a sudden, or has the problem been progressive?

There are not a whole lot of guys out there doing a lot with the A6s. You can give RPM Transmissions a call, and do some searching on the forum. There a few other guys repairing these.

There are a few things that can be wrong:
First thing is that you cannot read a code if there are no check engine lights or anything on bc there are none.
What is happening is what just happened to mine at 72k. I got mine back from a tran shop 2 days ago bc I dont have the equipment or mechanics that do tranny work.. not too mention my company doesn't like to do it..
What you're experiencing is exactly how mine was but a little diff. what you wanna do is def check the fluid and see if it is burnt up. is it a normal color?
one couldnt be for sure wout seeing it but it seems like you could have a clog or a valve body sticking not allowing the tran to shift correctly. at this point it is shifting but not efficiently causing a loss of power in certain gears depending on where the exact problem is. do you notice it ever revving up as it shifts then all of a sudden jerk as it finally goes into gear?
also the clutch could be going out..
there are endless possibilities as it is a transmission something extremely complex to understand.
get it to a shop immediately or you'll end up like i did..
losing my 3rd and fourth gear (which by the way happened after experiencing something extremely similar to what your saying is happening).
at that point you cannot go past 40 or so without burning it up and causing more damage.
im guessing you have an auto?
and that you like to get on it sometimes.. a lot of accelerating like 0-60 type stuff. I'll also guess that assuming it is an auto that you like using your overdrive? whatever is wrong means a failure to maintain (flushes) which i doubt bc you have a vette and i havent met a vette owner who doesnt give it everything it wants and i hope i never have to lol. I apologize if that statement offends anyone. or that you drove it like a vette.. THE performance car and now the transmission is going out bc unfortunately the tran is not made to endure everything and anything forever.
So.. that being said get it to a shop and get her fixed.. should something ive mentioned be the issue the solution i recommend is rebuild. I live in houston and paid 3100 for my rebuild. it included all the needed parts, performance clutch, tune, low stall torque converter, shift kit, and a 3yr 36mo warranty. i also had them rebuild it with the best parts in order to ensure it can take a beating if i want it to.
Yes i am the service manager for a repair shop and i could have found someone at one of my stores that knows what they're doing and got it done for a third of the price but like i said we don't specialize in trannys.
if needed spend the money.. i work in auto repair and im telling you this.. its worth the money to get it done right and satisfy you and your vettes needs. sorry for rambling but i just had the same issue so its fresh in my mind lol. good luck. and if you have questions i'll help as much as i can or get some answers from some of my techs.

what you just told me about the cold helped ALOT! def gotta be a cold shift.. your experiencing torque coverter drain back. have them check filter pick up.. and also for issues with valve body bolts loose. when it gets cold and you have valve body issues it will get worse.. this issue can cause the valve body to deform which will cause rough shifts also delayed shifts due to sticking. i am pleased with the rebuild i got. consider your use and goals for the car and make a decision. hope you have a good new year as well. thank you

I recently purchased a 1 owner 2006 C6 with 65k miles. Threads out there say stay away but I couldn't resist the shape and price<22k. Only issue I could find is the Head unit not reading the Nav disk but that's ok. My first stop is with my local Chevy dealer who specializes in Vette's (according to local lore). Moving forward to Service the Tranny, Oil change, Brake fluid flush. No issues just cautious. Any other suggestions ? Or should I just leave it be and drive it...

Have the Trans filter replaced and a complete fluid change (not just the fluid in the pan) and go from there. 51k miles seems premature for these problems but who knows how it was driven. Good Luck and let us know the outcome!

Have the transmission flushed . Full 13 quarts cleaning out the torque converter as well. When I purchased my '06 in 2018 I had MacMulikin do a full flush to establish a baseline. It had 45,700 on it. Now it has 49,700 on it and runs great.
