I was digging around for more info on the catch can - blow by issue, and came across this article about the LS3. It seems that 2009 may be better than the 2008 as far as blow by goes, but either way this is a very informative piece.
Excellent read--thanx for sharing. You come away from this read knowing that GM's Powertrain people have done an enormous amout of research/modeling to arrive where we are now with the LS3 and LS9 head design. This should put to sleep the critics' lament that GM just slapped together a cheap package for the Corvette and Camaro with only cost-saving in mind.
The thing I don't like about Dry Sump system is all the plumbing and relocation of oil reservoir, more weight, etc. Since the Camaro's Oil Pan is larger with Oil Cooler integrated, the only concern would be that of ground clearance for the Vette. Of course, the plumbing for cooling would still have to taken into account.
Fortunately, I've got a Z51 MZ6 with Oil, Tranny and PS coolers integrated.
pretty common for these types of engines to have that blowby but its not like in the older stuff, its more of an oil getting "pushed" up from the crank kinda works in reverse of how the system is suppose to work (the engine pulls vacuum at most points but when the throttle is wide open the vacuum in the intake is actually lower) This is also why the catch cans can only do so much, because they operate on the "vacuum" side of things. At least thats my understanding
By the way the world wide auction has cans in alot of colors for 30 bucks delivered so no need to get hammared by some of these guys charging 69 or 109 or almost 170 i saw recently. WOW, what a markup.
