I would drive an '06/'07 and see what you think, to me the steering feels great! Wouldn't trade the car for anything 
And for the price difference...put some better tires on in and change out the diff. ratio to something a little more aggressive, if you want more acceleration.
Either way, I highly advise getting some different tires...the runflats are a no go in my book
