Default Steering Lock While Driving

Twice in 2 years my steering locked while driving, the 2nd time almost caused a wreck. My dealer thinks it's the electric lock due to low battery voltage I have to take it in for a diagnostic check, anyone have a history with this?

I looked in your profile and it says there that you have a 2008.

The 2005 model year was the only C6 that had a steering column lock.

So.....if you have a 2008, it's not a malfunction of the steering column lock because there isn't one!!

I have no idea what your problem might be.

Although it could be very dangerous, I'm sure it's going to be a very difficult thing to determine if it only happens once a year.

Uh Oh!!!

Unless you have a 2005, it's time to go to a different dealer who has a tech that actually knows about the C6 Corvette!!!!

BTW, do a search and you'll find several threads with info about the column lock - here's one:

It is not a "column lock" issue as you don't have a locking column.

I would find the most reputable dealer within 100 miles with a GM Certified Corvette Technician and have him diagnose the possible cause(s)...Hope this helps.

As stated above the 05 is the only C6 with a steering wheel lock. You have a serious problem and I would make sure your dealer understands this or I would find another one.

Find another dealer.

Did Active Handling intervene and lock up one front wheel? Usually this action is accompanied by a service message in the DIC.

Just speculating, I've never heard of this either.

Good Luck and please let us know how this is resolved.

Slightly inaccurate statement, many export models have the steering wheel lock.
