I have a 2007 C6 Z51 Vert with 16,000 miles on it. I started the car up this morning and let it run in the garage with the hood up and I heard a low bearing squeal from the alternator, after 5 minuets of running I still heard the noise. Has anyone else had this problem with there alternator with this low mileage? Do you think it will go away or is it time for a dealer visit?
Thanks
if it didnt go away after it was ran for awhile then its not normal and will need replaced. Thing is it will either get alot worse or stay the same. Shouldnt give you any real issues driving but will drive you nuts
I dont know what a new alt costs but we have a guy here in big bear, so cal that will replace brushes, both bearings and anything else you need and do it in one day! Cost is about $50 depending on what it needs. He just rebuilt my alt in my trans am, new bearings, brushes and regulator for $50. ship it here, im happy to take it to him and ship it back to you.

Piston slap when cold???
lifter blead down and oil starvation in lifters until the oil pressure comes up? Try redline 5w-30 ,It cleared the bleed down proplem on mine
Thank you, that makes sense, bleed down..Also when the noise was there it was in the 30s.I am due for an oil change soon I will give the 5w30w a shot,it freaked me out with only 22,000mi on it.Kind Regards fast fred
Friend of mine's 05 had the same issue but sounded more like a blender full of rocks but would tone down after a few minutes but not go away. I would definitely replace/repair it ASAP. If the bearing seizes the belt will continue to turn eventually burning up and snapping, leaving you stranded. Easiest way to check the alternator, if you do the work yourself, is to release the belt tension, pop the belt off the alternator and rotate it by hand. It should be smooth, if not you found your issue. Good luck and let us know what happens.
I had the "Exact" same thing happen to my 05... it was out of warranty, I think it cost $500 + to get a new one...It happened on a Fri. & I was already set to race the following day, & the only place I could get a Alternator for it was at a Chevy Dealership...
I sucked it up and paid the man.....I forgot the exact amount but I am sure it was over $500.. if its not an emergency, you may be able to get one at a better price aftermarket... Good luck & I'm going to keep track of this thread ..please let us know how you make out & what it cost ... if you don't mind...
