Stock timing set? dot to dot. Crank dot straight up, cam dot straight down.

Default Compression or exhaust stroke

Know this is an old thread but I'm doing a cam install myself and had the same question. Before removing the original cam the only way I could get the crank timing mark in the 12 o'clock position and the cam timing mark in the 6 o'clock position with the number 1 cylinder TDC was on the exhaust stroke. Everything I've read about TDC says it should be on the compression stroke. When I do that, both timing marks are at the 12 o'clock position. Seems like if I install the new cam with its timing mark in the 6 o'clock postion it would be 180 degrees off. Really don't want to mess this up.

Its super easy. everyone always says make sure its on the compression stroke.... its simple 6 and 12 o'clock. dont make it any harder than it sounds. should take no more than 10-15 minutes to time it. get the marks lined up before you pull the cam gear and slip it back on with the marks re-aligned. simple
