Eagle Eye's LED tail lights... what am I missing here???
So yesterday was finally nice enough to back the Z out of the garage and swap out my stock tails with a set of LED tail lights from Eagle Eyes.
Take a look at the picture below. The top plug is the stock female from the wiring harness and the bottom is the male from the LED tail lights. As you can see they aren't going to mate up at all. Of course this kit came with zero instructions too. Just a single sheet of paper stating that if any of the lights didn't work to disconnect them and reverse the plug.
I'm going to venture a guess here as I never did this before.
Judging from the picture, I believe you unplugged a connector that's way upstream. Look at the (OEM) bulb connector/carriers, I believe the Eagle Eye's plugs into them.
Take one of your stock taillamps and remove the socket (that holds the bulb) from the lens. Remove the bulb from the socket. Now look at all the pieces carefully and the light (as it were) should dawn on you
The LED lamp socket plugs into the place where your stock BULB plugs in.

That's the connector that attaches directly to the tail light assembly.

So using the diagram your referenced in your post I should be trying to interface the Eagle Eyes plug with item #2 or #3 instead of the plug marked #4?

U.M.
#3 is the BULB
#4 is the wiring harness
#2 is the thing you plug the LED plug into (the only thing it *will* fit.)
Just think of your LED units as replacement BULBS.

Roger that... I guess it would make too much sense to put a plug on the LED tails which mates with the stock wiring harness plug!
I'll yank the bulb bases out of the housings and plug in there... honestly never even thought about trying that! I figured the stock tail lamps used standard style bulbs with a round base. Never crossed my mind they used a spade style bulb hence I never pulled them apart.

It makes sense, for sure. It would also cost mucho bucks since that connector doesn't have a male counterpart available on the open market. The LED tail lamp maker would have to custom order those and at such low quantities it would be prohibitively expensive. Their solution is inexpensive and easy enough to deal with.

I suppose so. They could at least put some instructions in the box for idiots like me...
Sure, I'll shoot some tonight if I get time. You can also go look at the following thread posted by ncvette_1FUNRIDE. He added these exact same LED tails to his car. His Vette is Cyber Gray just like mine so my pictures when posted should look just like his I would imagine.
I ended up calling when I installed mine. Can't believe there are no instructions. I can't remember what the numbering meant, but it wasn't what I thought it meant.
It's been a while but if I remember correctly the numbers refer to "inboard" and "outboard" as they are not the same shape. I went through this when I installed them in my wife's car. So you should have L1, L2, R1, R2. Sorry, but I *really* forget which is which. The lamps should pretty much "drop in" to the body. If you have to force it in any way then that's the the proper way.
I could be totally wrong here but that's what my inner voice is telling me to say

You can get the inside and outside lights mixed up but you can tell its wrong when you stand behind the car with the lights on...it looks like the car is cross eyed when they are incorrect place. It's important to get them in the right place or they look like they are not working from behind.
You unhook the wrong plug, the plug you are holding in hand for the eagle eye plug into the bulb holder of your original light once you remove the original bulb. Do it like a bulb replacement instead of a taillight replacement, push it in until it lock in place.

...email back from a vendor and he tells me that the two eagle eyes taillight housings with a "1" sticker on them are the outer location lenses. the 2 lenses with a "2" sticker on them are the inner(closest to liscense plate) location lenses
After spending hours on the inet I finally got an email back from a vendor and he tells me that the two eagle eyes taillight housings with a "1" sticker on them are the outer location lenses. The 2 lenses with a "2" sticker on them are the inner(closest to license plate) location lenses.
Mine had the '1' sticker on the left side tails, and the '2' on the right side ones. And both left and right tails have identical markings, so really doubt they're any different.
Anyway, I think the important thing is to install the left ones with the 'L', and the right ones with the 'R'. It's difficult to find the letters, but just look for them. And yes, they're pretty bright, especially at night. But not brighter than some Cadillacs, so I'm happy with them. That's exactly what I wanted. Now all I want is the CANbus LED amber bulbs I'm about to order for the front bulbs work without hyperflashing. That worked with my CANbus BMW bike (rear LED board with built-in resistors, and CANbus LED bulbs in front), so hope it does on the Vette too.
