Default Z06 exhaust swap onto LS3... keep 'H' pipe or go w/ Mr.Gas 'X' pipe?

I'm going to try the C6Z header/cat/midpipe exhaust swap on my LS3 w/ NPP mufflers and am trying to decide if i'm going to keep the factory 'H' pipe off the Z or go w/ an aftermarket 'X' pipe.

Has anyone tried this, or has anyone w/ a Z06 swapped in an 'x' pipe similar to the Mr. Gas one and seen any changines in hp/tq?

your NPP exhaust is 2.5"

z06 Pipe is 3"

I swapped full z06 exhaust including z06 cans onto my car. Go 3" all the way... or your going to need reducers welded onto the Z h pipe.

Yea, I think the Z06 cans actually squeeze down to 2.5" through the muffler though, so it's got the same 'bottle neck' if you were to consider that one. I've also heard from many people the NPP mufflers sound louder/better.

I plan to make the reduction in the Z mid-pipe... just trying to figure out if I'm going to use the factory 'H' pipe or put in the 'X' pipe while I'm at it.

It's an extra $350+ shipping for the x-pipe, so I'd like to make sure it'd be worth trying out.

BTW, did you notice any power increase vs. your stock system?

I would do the x pipe. There will not be much power gained but it will sound better imo.

The front of the pipe on the z06 cans is 3" to match the rest of the exhaust..

right, but did you measure the diameter right when it hits the can? The front of the over axle pipe is 3", but then as it enters the case it goes down to ~2.5"

I've got a Dr Gas X-pipe on my 08 LS3 coupe with Z06 manifolds and cats.

I cut the Dr Gas pipe towards the rear and welded on the rear section of my faxtory NPP x-pipe. The exhaust guy that did the work didn't use adapters to go from 3" to 2 1/2". Instead, he swedged (with a machine) the factory pipes to fit the Dr Gas pipe.

I think I've got pics, dyno and everything in this thread:

I'll probably be selling the Z06/Dr Gas setup. I decided to stay n/a and I'm planning on putting headers on this winter. IMO the Z06 manifolds give you about 2/3 the HP gain of headers and 1/2 the torque gain.

You might get a little different sound but there will not be any HP/TQ gains, not woth the $350 IMO.

I'd probably just buy the first half of the Dr. Gas x-pipe that has the Z06 flanges and 'x' at exactly the right size for my application, then have the muffler shop weld on 2.5" pipe from that X outlet back to my stock mufflers.

I know the factory z06 system won't add as much as aftermarket headers, so I'm tempted to throw on the X so that I won't be tempted to add it in the future if the results are lower than I expected on the 100% factory z06 system.
