Just wanted to ask if there was a proper way of breaking in a new LS3 engine? My coupe has about 300 miles currently, and is there a rpm range I should not hit...I generally shift gears at around 4000-5000 rpms. If this topic has been done to death, please disregard this e-mail as I'm still searching through the threads but didn't find anything....thanks in advance!

I believe that the break in period is more for the clutch than the engine... I'd imagine it's already been run on an engine dyno to test it before leaving the plant. Typically I just run it up to a thousand RPM before redline and let the car go through alot of decl to seal the rings... fair amount of WOT too in single gears, just no hard gear changes.
why do you normaly shift between 4000-5000, are you racing? would you drive a say, ford focus the same way? I believe the "owners manual" has comments about "break in procedure" does'nt it? something like.... vary rpm and speed up and down without going to fast or using to much rpm's for say the first 1000 miles or so.....
I guess the question is, what's considered high rpm...but based on your response, 4-5K rpm is too high? I wasn't aware the manual explains about breaking in a new engine....I'll give it a look tonight, thanks.

Street driving wise, I rarely reach 2 400 rpm. 4-5k rpm is ok for a small engine because it isn't powerful.
keep the revs down within reason and try and go thru alot of rpm ranges, dont set the cruise and drive 100 straight. This will help seat the rings and not groove the cylinders. But on a new ls3 its really no huge thing they are bulletproof
