Default Halltech Beehive Ram Air Induction

2006 Z06. I've had the Beehive and shrould for some time. Works great. My question is has anyone else got this intake system and shrould and cut out the two cut out areas at the base of the radiator shrould for a Ram Air effect as they recommend? I hate to cut them out and find out it's not worth it. My car runs mid 11's stock is not a daily driver either. Any replies appreciated.

I have it on my car non-z06 but I left it alone and didn't do the cut ram-air feature. It CAN'T make that much of a difference for something that drastic to cut up the car. I know you can buy a new shrowd -- but why for 2hp maybe?

I cut & added a Vette-Air. Works great.

How's the air getting into the air box that the shroud creates? With mid 11's it's coming from somewhere, but where? Through the small areas where the shroud doesn't seal that well?

Did the cut outs with mine (Halltech KB and Beehive)and just returned it back to stock. I don't think the cut outs were worth it IMO. Plus it's a real PITA to replace that radiator shroud if you decide to go back to stock.

why not use the free air mod by opening the bottom of the shroud.their are some threads on here about it.i have done this on my ls2 and it seems to work great with the beehive.

I replaced my vararam with the killer bee and I just left the shroud opened up. It breathes pretty good.

It's not fully sealed once shoved in place. I felt the vacuum pick up on my throttle right away once the shroud was in place. Apparently leaner over the fat stock F/A ratio. 7000 crisp RPM's where the Killerbee alone wasn't as crisp. Quicker vacuum means quicker throttle responce. Halltech only suggests using the cutouts that's why I asked. I'm going to leave mine the way it is especailly since it's still under warranty as well. I appreciate the replies.

Yes, I had the Killer Bee intake, Beehive shroud with cold air cut outs.

However, I decided for overall performance I prefered the stock LS3 intake. So, I modified the Beehive shroud to fit the stock intake and left the cold air cut outs open. The purpose of the cold air cut outs is to reduce the IAT's and prevent the tiiming from being pulled back resulting in hp lose.
I feel this current set up gives me the best overall performance.

Since you have a Z06 with the open air duct on the top, I would not open up the bottom of the shroud. I would leave it stock because you should be getting plenty of air from the duct. It sounds like your car is running just fine!

Halltech recommends opening up the bottom of the shroud for the base corvettes because they do not have an air duct like the Z06.
