Default DTE differential

Interesting that the chatter is completely gone with this change. Even with the OEM, fluid change and figure 8's, I still experienced some mild chatter at take off. Now with the Differential swap it is completely gone, sounds like a normal car. The swap is new and not broken in yet but I can already feel that it was the right decision going with 4.10's.

what needs to "break in" with gears? you apparently had bad "clutch packs" in your old diff, or damaged it trying to launch it or do burn outs like john force, Because the rest of us only had the "chatter" when we were turning and in my 06 the "new" fluid worked perfectly! instantly! and I recently went to Amsoil and still no noise, say good by to your MPG

just for info, how much DO you lose in mpg by going to 4.10 vs. 3.42 (I presume that's what you had before)? I would think it's somewhere in the 3-5 mpg range, but that's just a guess.

Well I to had amsoil in the oem diff, with the added friction modifier. The clutch packs could very well have been the problem.. I know DTE upgrades the packs in their stage 2, which is what I have. Also remember I said mild chatter actually passengers could not detect it. I am very sensitive to sounds and vehicle feel. ( This is just a by product of driving big rigs for a long time ) I am not bragging here most long time drivers develop this sense if they have a brain that is switched on.

Also I have never launched or burned out, ever in this car. Two yrs. old. I am a very smooth driver, 33 yrs Commercial experience. My brakes last forever. My 96 4 runner with 170,000 miles still has original pads and rotors.

Weekend driver so milage is not a concern. For trips I expect to maybe loose 2 max. I was getting 29 so no bigger for me.

With 80,000 lbs under you it is all amout smoothness on the road especially in the twisters, brakes get hot real fast.

The brake in procedure is more of heat cycling for 350 miles keeping under 3,000 rpm and no wot.

Neumonic 2002......ya thanks for the post.

I'm down 1 -3 mpg with 3.90s. I have the DTE Stage 2 rear too. If you want to try it out once some of the seemingly non-stop snow melts , shoot me a PM.
