I have a 2005 coupe, about 41K mi. and have now experienced the "DBS"....What would it hurt to remove the battery when parking for winter/off season and leave on a battery charger or tender? What would the effect be with car electronics? I can live with resetting clock and radio stations, etc., but will my key FOB's still work when re-connecting? As far as getting the car open, if FOB works, I plan on leaving the hood ajar to re-install battery. Also, have heard the Optima is the way to go...as my factory Delco has already ran all the way dead.
I wouldn't bother taking the battery out, the only battery I takeout is in my lawn tractor that is stored outside, all my other cars sit with the battery attached with a maintainer charger on.
You would feel like hell if you droped the battery on the fender, I would put your battery on a small charger on 1 amp and bring it up slowly over a few hours, then after it's fully charged then put a maintainer charger on untill you are going to drive the car again.
The 10 buck chargers from harbor freight work great I have been useing them for years, I lost one becasue it stopped working after 5 years, so I tossed it and put on another, I buy them 3 or 4 at a time when they are on sale.

2 other options:
Get the dealer installed BCM reflash to eliminate DBS.
And/or get a prioritystart module to protect yourself.
A search here or Google will give you the details.

Hey, kap'nkirk... May I respectfully suggest that you do not have the fabled "DBS!" Nope, if this is the original factory battery in an '05 'Vette, you just have an old-battery-whose-life-is-all-used-up!
"DBS" was an inherent problem that caused very premature battery failure... easily fixed by a reflash.
That many years on an OEM battery is pretty darned good performance!
I, too, have an '05 and am still on the original battery (a happy condition which I expect to change most any day).
