Default Ordering Wide Body Kit

Hey guys - My car is going to ECS on Monday for a cam install. When it gets back I'm ordering a wide body kit.

I know of two vendors on these boards that sell the complete kit. I'm looking for advice on the best route to take, any details I should know?

From what I've read I guess I can expect to pay about 1,200 for the full kit, and about 700-1,000 for installation/paint.

Any info on this project and the best source for the kit would be great.

Mike

Oh yeah, fast car being built.

You picked the right shop.

I would get a low overlap blower cam now and settle for 480rwhp now instead of going full size on the cam making another 20. It makes your future ECS 2200 s/c that much better down the road and you know I'll talk you into it.

For $1200, you must be talking about the rear kit only. The full widebody kit, both front and rear, is closer to $4000 for just parts.

Yes, two good vendors for GM parts. I have read a few issues with the kits purchased from www.partstaxi.com, in that some parts were missing. I am sure though that Kevin took care of whatever needed taken care of.

I purchased my rear kit from Gene at www.gmpartshouse.com. Everything was included and no issues at all. There was no partstaxi here on the forum when I purchased my kit.

I paid $1600 for paint only, no labor. This was for Crystal Red, which ended up being a real pain to match. I also had the lower rear exhaust panel painted body color and that was included in the $1600 cost.

Don't forget the cost of new rims/tires to take advantage of the new widebody.

You were charged a bit more than the industry average.

It appears you run stock rear wheels. Are they widened with an adapter?

Damn it Spin - I had it in my head that this was going to be my last performance mod, but I have a feeling you're right about the blower.

Yes Swift - I was referring to the rear fender kit. You paid 1600 for JUST PAINT?!?! Yes I have wheels figured in as well.

Initial price to paint both rear fenders and the lower exhaust panel was quoted at $1000, but when we could not get a good color match, decided to blend and cost went to $1600. In the end the entire car had to be repainted from the back of the front fenders all the way back. Doors, mirrors, rear fenders, hatch, spoiler, rear bumper/cover, everything. Body shop owner would not let me take the car until it was perfect and said he was not going to charge me more because it was his problem and not mine. In the end, alot of work was done for ONLY $1600. Took close to 3 months to get it right. This all took place during last winter, so time did not really matter. Both BASF and DuPont sent reps to the body shop to try and help with the color match. Settled on DuPont in the end. Body shop now has everything documented for Crystal Red so we will not have this issue in the future.

Yes, rear rims are stock style that were widened to 12" by www.weldcraftwheels.com. I am running an adapter that is 1.75" thick. That is all about to change though as I just installed Z06 brakes and have new chrome Z06 size spyders and tires sitting in the garage. Tire sizes are the stock Z06 size. Plan to do a front ZR1 conversion in the future.

I went with parts taxi. They were reasonably quick on shipping and everything needed was sent. Cost me $900 for paint and install on a black vert. Between the parts ($1200), paint and install ($900) and new CCWs with new tires ($4350), it wasn't cheap but well worth it. I used adapters on my old CCWs for a while without any problems. Good luck.

Looks good. Weldcraft widened my 18's out to 11".

Thanks for the referral. I certainly appreciate it. I would be happy to help you out with a kit. Should any vendor try to undercut us I would be happy to price match. Whatever you need. I have had no complaints that I forgot anything.

I've bought most of my body stuff from Gene. In the last couple of months I've also checked into replacing my factory nav unit and Gene gave me a better shot than anyone so before spring I'll order it from him. (as long as he stands by it) It'll be undercover in the garage for at least 2 more months.
