Default Oil in intake track help?

So I just pulled off the factory intake manifold and noticed a fair amount of oil coated on the inside floor and walls. I know this is to be expected as my car is totally stock and I am not running any sort of catch can setup. My question is that there is also oil residue in the intake runners of the heads. Is this something I should be worried about? I have the car all torn apart now, getting ready for my blower so I was wondering if I needed to do something about the heads as now would be the time to do it (meaning pull them off and clean them up)?

I would not pull them off just for this (cleaning) as future fuel running through will clean them out. Do install a catch can upon reassembly.

A catch can will help prevent oil from getting to the intake.

I was planning to do a catch can along with the blower install. I was just worried about the oil already in there. How much is really acceptable and not to worry about?

They all have oil in them and yours is normal. You can wash it in a deep sink with lots of Dawn dish soap or any degreaser like simple green to clean it up. A catch can will stop about 80% of the oil accumulation. Don't fret too much about the rest.

Just wipe the heads ports with lacquer thinner if you are concerned about it. That's what I did when I installed the FAST 92 a few months ago.

There may be some carbon on the pistons and combustion chambers but unless you are experiencing any detonation, I would not be concerned. Today's gas additives should keep it under control.

You need to do a search!!
Oil in the intake creates detonation and poor performance, I would clean and make sure you install a good can or breather system
Spinmonster has done some threads that cover this topic

Hold on a second.............

Go back and read the thread.

The OP said he WILL clean the intake manifold and WILL install a catch can but wanted to know if he should be concern what oil in the heads and if he should take them off and clean them up.

Everyone has this....even the ones with a catch can. It does not catch everything. I have seen all kinds of varations on here -- from no catch can, to one can, to two cans in series, to venting to atmosphere. Take a search, read the data, and make a decision....thats what I had to do.

You will need a catch can, and likely two with a blower setup unless you go with the oil cap breather for your pcv clean air intake.

Here is great info on the topic by Tracy of Revxtreme, an expert on the subject. He sells a great can too with a pcv valve in it (I think he's the only one with a valve which makes perfect sense to me...cars normally have a valve to keep high vacuum from sucking too much oil and oil mist in during high vacuum situations - our vettes don't have that nor do normal catch cans which must IMHO be a big part of the oil injestion we see.

Guys......this is the question. He already plans to install a catch can.

Should he pull the heads and clean out the oil residue or not??

I wouldn't pull the heads. Just run a can of Seafoam through it.

Thanks for the insight guys. Apparently some were confused about the clearly laid out question of should I pull the heads and that "I AM" going to do a catch can install.

Also looking to get a catch can. What one are you planning to use?

Can anyone shed some light on which ones they'd recommend / work as advertised.....through some research on older posts it seems some people say they work and others don't.

I also see three names that seem to be widely used: Revextreme, Mike Norris, and Elite Engineering.

Revextreme & Saikou Michi are the best. You'll be fine with either of those.

I like the REV EXTREME dual catch Can that they have a Diagraphm of
in the other thread. One line from the valley goes to the 1st Can and the other 2 from the Valve Covers go to the other Can.
I had the two lines going to VENT and in spite of it I still wound up with Oil in my FAST INTAKE ?.
