I am planning to tint my car as I am "fishbowling" it now. I am thinking of doing 5%. But I wanna know if you guys have done it and had any issues of seeing out the back at night due to the dimming mirrors plus the tint. I am not worried about LEO's giving me a hard time in Indy about the darkness, they don't seem to worry about it too much. Plus you could say I am on the same team.
I have 5% on mine. Started with 18%, and too much sun was still getting in. No issues with not being able to see out the back window. I love it, and it keeps the car extremely cool in the Florida sun...
It's a cool look, but illegal here in AZ since anyone outside like pedestrians and other drivers can't see you from the side to know what you'll be doing next.
I have to roll my window down will reversing in some areas because there isnt enough outside light but when your on the freeway seeing out the window for other car is no problem.
Last time the State Troopers pulled me over my car metered at 8% (25% is legal), I didn't put the tint on so I'm not sure what it is. It looks really good just a pain to back up at night, if you want to get close to a curb you have to role down the window.
Looks great, keeps the car nice and cool in the Arizona sun.
I do have a few issues driving at night in a low light area. Quite hard to see. I do not drive at night very often so it realy isn't an issue.
As far as law enforcement. In the 2 years since I had the windows tinted, got pulled over 8 minutes after getting the tint done for too dark. I think the cop was jealous. The 5% actually read 4% on the light meter.
Go for the 5% you will love the look. nd the ceramic does not interfere with nav or radio.
God help you driving at night. Hopefully you have sonar on your vette because you are going to be as blind as a bat. I used to have 20%, no problem during the day (rearward vis was a bit difficult), now I have 35 all the way around. Let's in some light, keeps the temperatures down. I live in FL so I know some things about heat. No I'm not old, and no my vision isn't bad, I'm a pilot with 20/15, and I can tell you 5 is ridiculously too dark!

The only problem with tinting the side windows 5% is that at night it, in poor lit streets, it's hard to see people. Especially those wearing dark closed. Plus I had to roll my windows down with having to park sometimes. Other than that, I liked it.
also did you guys get 1 piece in the rear window or two? if you have two is it noticeable or not? should I hold out for someone who can do it in 1 piece?
My tint guy is good when it comes to contours on windows so he nailed the rear window with 1 piece. I hear a lot of places do it with 2 pieces but I don't know if the line will be noticable. Personally, just me knowing it's there is enough to pay extra to get it done right

I did two pieces in the back. The dot matrix is covered with black vinyl and the remainder is tint. You can't tell the difference if you use a quality tint installer. The dot matrix doesn't really allow the glue to adhere to the surface causing what looks like dried white glue to show up between the dot areas. It doesn't always do it, and when it does show the dried white glue areas, they are not always that big. For me it was just more worth it to get the black vinyl on the dots and not take the risk. Also it is not in your line of sight when using your mirrors or looking out the back so it has no effect on anything.
My current car is the first car I have had in the last 10 years WITHOUT 5% tint. 5% was a pain (not bad even at night in well lit areas, but neighborhoods, backing up, etc. very hard to see...I always rolled the windows down) and I didn't realize how annoying it was until this car with no tint at all. I'm now on the fence whether I want to do it again since its been so nice without.
Obviously if your car is going to sit in the sun alot 5% does keep it much much cooler than even 20-30% tint.
I have ceramic 15% on my roll-ups and back glass and 35% on entire windshield and its perfect, The only problem with the 5% is it has alot of dye in it and will make it difficult at night to see, You can actually get a good 35% film thats ceramic and 5% thats non-metalic and the 35% will keep the inside of the vehicle cooler in the HOT summer days, Hope this sheds some light'
