i have a ? about push rod length on a ls2 with stock heads not milled stock rockers i installed a comp cam 54-444 with comp push rods 7.40 it seems like it has too much valve lash to me it clicks and clacks at idle to 1500rpm i know there is a way to check the proper rod length but i was thinking of just installing some 7.425 push rods what do you think and what size have you seen run on this combo i think comp cams are smaller on the base circle? thanks for reading this and any advise you have Scott
hey a/c man, 7.425 is usually what everyone runs with a comp cam. yes, they have a smaller base circle. comp has a pushrod length checker tool they sell for about 17.00 i think. 7.430 will quiet it down, but may be a little too tight for performance and smooth running. hope this helps, cranky

I am ordering a cam kit next week and some tell me to order the 7.400 and others tell me 7.425? My installer will check the the length/preload but I don't want to have to wait to send a set back to be replaced by the correct length if I can help it.

7.4 every time, some cams swaps make a little ticking, its just life. we have installed 100's of cams and only about 3-4 times had to use a pushrod different than a 7.4 If your questioning it Check the preload on you lifter that will tell you if you have the right length or not. Now...if you have trick flow heads you need a 7.5 most of the time, but with your ls2 heads you will be fine with the 7.4's with your comp cam, 7.4 is a tad bit longer than STOCK and that makes up for the smaller base circle of the comp cam.
