Guys- Need an opinion. Bought an '08 Coupe with 13,000 miles. Bought it through autotrader.com Unfortunately the car was located 2500 miles away, and I did not go and check it out. I did buy it through a GM dealer, so I thought I was pretty safe. Anyway, I need to replace the clutch. Chevy is estimating about $2300.00
Do you feel this is a proper $$ ?

The dealer is probably quoting you a price on the high side, but ask for a complete breakdown, and what the labor rates are. Are there any shops in your area that have worked on Vettes? If they are reputable, you might save $$$.
Another alternative is to get the parts neeeded from Gene Culley, here on the forum, and avoid the dealer mark up; typically 30% passed on to the customer over cost.
If the clutch is covered under the warranty why should you replace it on your dime, you must have gotten some kind of a warranty unless you bought the car as is.
If you got a warranty fight for your rights, if not find someone local to you and have a GM or high quality clutch installed.
Most shops don't want to see you walking in with parts unless you make arrangements before hand, if they have a posted price for a clutch install they know they are going to makes some bucks on the parts also.
I was told a clutch is under warranty for 12 months 12K miles by my local chevy dealer service android. New Textralia Z-grip or X-grip should not cost anymore than 1700 P/L installed.
If you don't know the condition of your clutch, you're about 25 miles from Cream Ridge, NJ forum vendor East Coast Supercharging (no, that's not all they do). And a little farther from County Corvettes in West Chester, PA. They can tell you.
Sorry to see this happen to you. Good luck. I think the price quoted is on the high side but not out of the question.
The problem I am having is that I'll be in 2nd or 3rd gear and when I "punch" the car the RPM's go from 2000 to redline. I generally do not beat the car. It feels like the trans is just slipping out of gear. The technician at Chevy said that the previous owner either beat the s--t out of it or just didn't know how to use the clutch. He said the "padding" that engages the trans is worn out and that they have to take the rear out to get to the clutch. Said it's about a 12 labor hour job. I know I could probably get a price lower, but I think at this point I'll just let them do it.
Thanks everybody for all your imput.
It just pisses me off that I had an '05 Coupe that I drove for 120,000 miles and never had to do any work on the clutch.
Just a good lesson I learn- If you think you have a good deal, REALLY check it out!
I just had a Z06 clutch put on my base model 05 by an ex GM mechanic. My car had 64,000 miles on it and the clutch still had life left in it. The mechanic stated to me that GM has had trouble with the clutch automatic adjustment mechanism on some Vette clutches. He recently did a clutch on a Vette with similar miles on it as yours which was warranted by GM because of the problem. Unless your tracking the car frequently you should get a lot more miles out of the clutch.
Got the installation done by a Chevy Dealer. Total cost was $2,000.00 including 4 wheel alignment. They insisted that it is not under warranty. I guess it is what it is.
Anyway thanks to all who responded. Moderator- you can close this thread!

The clutch is covered, while under warranty, for manufacting defects. Wearout is not covered, unless a defect caused the wearout.
A clutch can last 100,000 miles or one can wearout a cluth in 10,000 miles.
