Default Rotor Replacement

I picked up some drilled and slotted rotors for my stock C6. I would like to know if there are any "gotchas" I should be aware of when I replace them this weekend. By that I mean the need for special tools, etc. I've got new DOT4 fluid.

I'm also wondering about the need for the hockey puck inserts for lifting the car. Are they necessary? I've done it before and didn't see the need. Ignorance can be very NON-blissful and I'd hate to mess things up.

Thanks!
Russell

Make sure to use the pucks otherwise you will damage the rocker panel ( side skirt ).
Here is a rotor installation thread. Search is your friend

You don't HAVE to use the pucks. If you just take your time and place the jack head on the chassis lift points, instead of sticking it under and cranking away, you'll be fine without them. I've jacked mine plenty of times without them with no damage whatsoever.
If you are the type that feels they must have them, pick up a pack of hockey pucks from the local big sporting goods retailer and save about $40.

There's an entry about removing the rotors in the C6 FAQ with pics. if you're just replacing rotors, you'll save a little time by NOT removing the calipers from the brackets and just removing both as one piece.

Good luck! It's easy.

Default Rotors and Pucks

Hey Filmjay, thanks for confirming what I thought was the case. I've lifted it a few times and was wondering what the hype was about lifting pucks: just be careful and take your time. I'll check the Rotor replacement C6 FAQ.

Hey Richor, thank you for the excellent Rotor Replacement thread. I did a search before my post, but my search may have been too narrow. Many thanks, Russell.

The rears may fight you coming off. Try to not **** the parking brake shoe, it will jam the rotor. Sometimes a BFH is required. If you have the parking brake shoe spring come off, reassembly will probably require a lot of swearing. Search the C-5 forum for instructions- the C-5 and C-6 are the same.

Thanks Dave, this is EXACTLY the type of info I'll need before doing the job this weekend. I'll now be aware of the E-brake shoes.

Default lock washer, Rust, e-brake, calipers

These are the only things holding the rotors on the hub:

lock washers, Rust, e-brake (rear only), calipers

The link from Richor pretty much summarizes it... keep in mind you don't need the washers... they are used in the factory to keep the rotors from falling off when the car is moved from station to station.

After trying to put mine back on for 2 1/2 hours, I said f*ck it and just took the whole thing off and took it to the shop to have them put it back on. There was A LOT of swearing and several thrown tools.
